The Australasian Veterinary Boards Council's
purposes include:
- Providing a forum for discussion, advice and co-operation among the veterinary boards in Australia and New Zealand
- Encouraging the standardisation and quality assurance of veterinary services to the community in all jurisdictions
- Assuring and promoting uniform educational standards through accreditation of veterinary schools, the Australasian Veterinary Examination, assessment of veterinary qualifications for migration and assessment of specialist qualifications

The Australasian Veterinary Boards Council Inc (AVBC) has unanimously approved a transition to a company limited by guarantee, marking a significant milestone in the organisation’s evolution as the peak body for veterinary education standards across Australia and New Zealand.
From 30 January 2026, the AVBC migration skills assessment fees will increase to align with changes in the Consumer Price Index (CPI).
