For the construction of the composite indicators, data was collected for one year using the Google Trends tool, for a set of a priori defined search terms representative of the Portugal destination and its regions. The composite indicators result from the average weighting of seven primary indicators, composed of fifteen sub-indicators, which were proposed based on the conceptual framework of the Tourism Satellite Account. The results indicate that the interest of the Portuguese people by Portugal and its regions shows a seasonal behavior whose accent varies according to the tourism region, as well as the characteristics tourism products.

With the advent of Internet and the easy way in which anyone can communicate with the consumer, the role of DMO as intermediaries is based on the need to add value. If DMO actively join e-business they can add value to the consumer but also to suppliers. Destination Management Systems (DMS) are a collection of computerized information about a destination, accessible in an interactive way. The concept is defined as a synonym of the technological infrastructure of a DMO. The present study aims to present the conceptual framework of an investigation intended to define the main factors behind the success of DMS. The research model is based on the assumption that success factors fit in three spheres of action: the dynamics of the system implementation within a DMO, the very specific features of DMS and the organizational environment in the destination.

The complexity of activities and actors which need to be managed at the destination level highlights the major contribution that destination management organizations can provide. The use of information technologies is particularly required in tourism products distribution and in this sense the use of destination management systems is an essential tool. The aim of this paper is to present the main conclusions of an international study concerning ebusiness adoption by destination management organizations i.e. the adoption of destination management systems. Following the presentation of the main characteristics of this organizations, ebusiness adoption and the process of implementation of these systems are after discussed. This study intends to present key issues in destination management systems implementation.

The rapid changes in society and consumer behaviour associated with the countries' economic situation have made the collection of statistical data difficult, impacting on the dissemination of updated and relevant indicators. This fact evidences the difficulty in having timely knowledge of the sector and consequently the tourism stakeholder's hard and imprecise decision-making. The Internet has proved to be an important source of data, and it is possible, through tools like Google Trends (GT), to know timely the interests and intentions of potential consumers in tourism. The objective of this paper is to present a methodology for building a composite indicator to measure the world interest of Portugal as a tourist destination. The composite indicator is conceptually based on the classification of activities and products' characteristics of tourism that are part of the proposed tourism supply defined in the Tourism Satellite Accounts (TSA). Primary indicators were collected over a year using GT and weighted with indicators of total tourist consumption in Portugal. Our findings indicate that the interest of Internet users worldwide by tourism in Portugal varies throughout the year and the interest of search differs according to the tourism product characteristics.

Destination management systems are a key technological infrastructure for these organizations. However, in the literature, it is not clear what are the factors that promote the implementation of these systems, neither what are the factors that contribute to their success. This study aims to propose and test two research models to overcome these research gaps.Design/methodology/approachThe first model refers to the determinants of the implementation of destination management systems, and the second model refers to the determinants of the success of those systems. The models are tested with data collected through a questionnaire survey from destination management organizations of five European countries, which are among the leaders in international tourism receipts.FindingsConcerning the factors that promote the implementation of destination management systems, t...

The incapacity by consumers to evaluate the degree of freshness and quality of fish for consumption may cause health problems, such as food poisoning, hence the preference of consumers for deep-frozen products instead of healthier fish that is sold fresh. In this project we intend to contribute to an improvement in the evaluation by the final consumer of the quality of fresh fish sold to them through creating a reference table of fish degradation (at this experimental stage for mackerel and sardine) and the development of a mobile application allowing, in a near future, for users to determine the rate of freshness of fish they wish to acquire. The reference table creation is based on the degradation/dehydration of the fish’s eye as well as a respective coloration (opaqueness), which changes according to the time since the fish was caught.

The Water Framework Directive (2000/60/EC) implementation operates toward solving environmental issues from European and national level. As a consequence, the water quality and the biocenosis structure was altered, especially the composition of the macro invertebrate community which is closely related to habitat and substrate heterogeneity. This study aims to assess the ecological status of Southern Branch of the Danube Delta, Saint Gheorghe, using benthic fauna and a computational method as an alternative for monitoring the water quality in real time. The analysis of spatial and temporal variability of unicriterial and multicriterial indices were used to assess the current status of aquatic systems. In addition, chemical status was characterized.
