What’s On The Horizon For: Andalucia Tourism Board | Aviation Week Network (original) (raw)

Ahead of co-hosting Routes Europe 2025, Andalucia Tourism Board discussed the growing popularity of the region and insights into next year’s event.

Andalucia, an autonomous community in southern Spain, offers a unique blend of history, culture, natural beauty, and luxury. In 2023, the region's six airports recorded a record year in passenger numbers, with Malaga Airport welcoming over 22 million passengers and Seville surpassing eight million.

The destination recently hosted the CAPA Airline Leader Summit 2024 in Granada and announced a new year-round route between Amsterdam and Granada beginning in September. Seville Airport’s 2024 summer schedule also includes expansion with five new destinations served by three airlines, including Ryanair flights to Trieste, Birmingham, and Budapest, Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) to Stockholm, and Air Nostrum to Madeira.

With a strong domestic market, Andalucia has well-established connections across Europe, attracting visitors from the UK, Germany, Nordic countries, Italy, and France. Speaking at Routes Europe 2024, Antonio Martín-Machuca, head of cooperation and air connectivity, said: “A future objective is to attract more long-haul routes from the U.S., Canada, and South America,” highlighting the organization's presence at Routes Americas in Bogota earlier this year.

Routes Europe 2025 will be held in Seville, co-hosted by the Andalucia Tourism Board. Planning is well underway, with committees ensuring coordination across airports, governing bodies, and local communities.

Speaking about the upcoming event, Martín-Machuca said: “Seville is one city in the world you must visit at least once in your life. We think it is going to be a great event, and delegates from Routes Europe 2024 are excited to visit Seville next year.”

Held at the Fibes Conference and Exhibition Centre across three days, Routes Europe 2025 delegates can expect to explore new business opportunities and experience all Seville has to offer.
