awalkinandante - Profile (original) (raw)
Do you write, draw or create in the Kingdom Hearts fandom, but want to extend those writings beyond fanworks? Feel like you're having trouble working on your original stories, because you think all your friends only want to see your fanfiction? Want to connect with your fellow KH fans on a level beyond just the usual fandom activities?
Then welcome to A Walk in Andante, a community for KH fans to discuss and share their original stories, artwork, ideas and more! As I personally have trouble getting myself to work on original projects when there's demand from friends for fanfic, and I hear so from other friends as well, why not make a community for it? This place is designed as a safe haven for KH fans to share their personal original works, to build ideas with fandom friends, and encourage the same time, effort and enthusiasm for our own ideas that go into our fanfic ideas.
The rules are below:
Q: Who can join awalkinandante?
A: If you're in the Kingdom Hearts fandom and you have original work to share, you're welcome to join. Non-KH fans are not expressly forbidden from joining, but since the point of the community is for this to be a place specifically for KH fans, you'll have to explain why you'd be interested in joining.
Q: What can I post there?
A: Anything original that you've created! It can be a novel, poem, short story series, comic, artwork, sculpture, song, music video...you name it! It can be a completed piece, or a work-in-progress, it just has to be your own idea.
Q: I don't have anything started yet, but I've got an idea for my own story. Can I post that?
A: Yes! In fact, new ideas and rough outlines are encouraged. Sometimes the best ideas and motivation you can find can come from discussing a half-formed story with friends. Feel free to ask for friends' opinions on your story idea!
Q: Can I post my idea for a fanfiction and get feedback on that?
A: No. This community is for KH fans to share things that are not fanworks. There are many other communities out there for posting fanfic and fanart. So please do not explain your fanfic idea, or post any fanfic here.
Q: I've got an idea for a new story that uses an OC from an old fanfic, or I've got an idea for a story that is based off of some ideas/characters/settings in Kingdom Hearts. Can I post those?
A: Yes. As long as the story is original and can not be called fanfiction, you can post it even if it has some elements from what was once fanfiction.
Q: So this community is just for original works only? No discussing KH allowed?
A: Nothing that harsh. As we're all KH fans, you're free to discuss aspects of the series and do some fangirling. That's why we're all here, after all! Just please be aware that this is not a fanworks community, and this is not a rant community, so please don't come in with a post like "my original story is so much better than so-and-so's crappy fanfic!" If you'd like to unload about the pressures of doing an original story (such as "it's hard to finish my original webcomic when my fanart gets so many more favorites and comments!") then that's fine.
The bottom line is: this community is about creating original work AND being in the KH fandom, not about creating in the KH fandom.
Q: What's the policy on critique here?
A: Dealing with original stories is a little different than dealing with fanfic, since the "canon" is going to be different for every work. It's a bit trickier to claim a character is OOC on a story that hasn't even been finished yet. Therefore, the policy is twofold:
Creators, it is your responsibility to explain whether or not you are looking for harsh critique. If you want people to be honest in their opinions, you'll have to ask for it! Oftentimes commenters will not be honest if they're afraid they'll hurt the creator's feelings. Similarily, if you ask for harsh opinions and do get them, do not scream and throw hissy fits just because you aren't getting back-pats. Every creator can always stand to improve in whatever art they're doing, and sometimes, an opinion is just an opinion.
Commenters, it is your responsibility to be aware of what kind of feedback the creator is expecting. If they do not ask for a harsh critique, it probably means they do not want it, and are just looking for general opinions. However, if they do ask for you to be honest, then please be honest! While back-patting may be the safest way to respond, it won't help the author/artist grow and improve.
Q: I'm a spammer looking for a place to advertise my new RP, or I'm a troll looking to stir up trouble for the sake of laughing at you get upset about it. What're you going to do about it?
A: There's a zero-tolerance policy on such stuff here. If you spam with junk that has nothing to do with either your work or KH, or if you're a troll looking for new wank, you will be banned with no questions asked. Simple as that.
Q: Anything else I should know about?
A: I'll let you know if I think of anything! But otherwise, you're free to join and post all those new ideas you have! If you've got any other questions, feel free to email lynxgriffin, or catch her on AIM under the same name. She welcomes any inquiries!
