YHWH’s relationship to his people is demonstrated in Hosea’s marriage. Hosea’s experience of having an unfaithful wife who was also a prostitute demonstrates how YHWH experiences the spiritual adultery of his people: primarily Israel, but also Christians today. Hosea demonstrates not only YHWH’s anguish, but His unfailing love despite the depth of sin to which his loved ones fall. The problem of feminist textual criticism of the theme of male dominance in Hosea is examined. The effects of adultery, prostitution and divorce on children are examined in the light of Hosea. The paper attempts to draw from the experiences of Hosea practical advice for a recently separated persons: especially those victimized by their partner’s adultery.

Research paper thumbnail of Listen to their Tears: Church Ministry to Middle School Aged Children who’s Parents are Going through Separation, Divorce and Remarriage

Educators have recently turned their attention to this age group and revamped their approach to middle school aged children, which they designate as grade 6- 8, or age 11-14.
Because it is such a turbulent time for children, one would assume that the experience of their parents’ divorce would be particularly hard for this age group. This paper will attempt to discover the empirically verified impact of parental divorce on early adolescents, or Middle–School aged children (MSAC).
Christian Churches have been attempting to deal with the increasing incidence of divorce not only in society at large, but within their own ranks. There are effective and widely acclaimed divorce recovery programs such as DivorceCare® and more recently a DC4Kids®, a biblically based program to address the needs of children of divorce aged 5 -12. However, at this time there are very few resources available for a Christian ministry to early adolescents whose parents are separating and divorcing. Since educators insist that younger adolescents have different needs and learning styles than older adolescents, this paper will focus on how the Christian Community can address the needs of MSAC who are the victims of their parent’s separation, divorce and remarriage.

When the pastor faithfully conducts a wide ranging assessment, coaches the couple in their efforts, affirms them in their strengths and waits supportively and quietly while they clear up unfinished business, then that pastor is demonstrating the significant difference between the responsibility of the Christian ministry and the Court House document processing; (Rolfe, David J. He and his followers organized the United Brethren in Christ, the first truly American Denomination, and while they arrived at a position nearly identical to the Methodists, they arrived by a different route.
The rich heritage of the United Brethren in Christ implemented the best of four major streams of the protestant reformation: Calvinism, Lutheranism, Anabaptism and Moravianism as well as the later developments of the Pietists. Although he was sometimes given the derogatory label of a “Dutch Methodist” Otterbein actually had a greater influence on the Methodists than vice versa. He had implemented many Methodist practices in the American colonies before they were established in the United States by the Methodists."

"This paper will attempt to examine the interface between the contribution made by medical treatm... more "This paper will attempt to examine the interface between the contribution made by medical treatment of addiction and recovery ministries by various Churches and Christian agencies. Four contemporary models will be examined. Alcoholics Anonymous grew out of the Oxford Movement and Rev. Sam Shoemaker’s Calvary Episcopal Church about seventy years ago. Over the years, churches and clergymen such as Dr. Calvin Chambers and Dr. Robert Claytor have endeavored to work cooperatively with this program. However, as the program has grown, it has drifted from some of its earlier Biblical roots, as described by Dick. B., making this cooperation increasingly challenging. Secondly, the Book the Cross and the Switchblade told the inspiring story of how a simple country preacher established Teen Challenge as a rehabilitative program for drug addicts 51 years ago. This has now grown to a worldwide network of over 1000 Teen Challenge treatment centers. Thirdly, Alistair Jappy, an experienced and licensed drug and alcohol counselor compared the results of a Christian group and a spiritually eclectic group in a publicly funded alcohol and drug community clinic. Finally, I will examine Celebrate Recovery: Kevin Nieman conducted a unique “hermeneutic interpretation” of cohesiveness and its effects on a large Celebrate Recovery program in a large Church of Christ in Louisiana. Although each program is unique, it adds to and improves on the A.A. 12 Step model.
Insights from each of these programs will be used along with models presented by Drs. Earley and Roberts from the Talbott Recovery campus in Atlanta Georgia to suggest how medical and spiritual modes of treatment can work collaboratively to address the needs of a person suffering from addiction.

Luke reworked some of Mark's Trasnfiguration narrative to heighten the correspondence between Christ's transfiguration and the wilderness theophanies recorded in Exodus 19-20; 24; 34; 40:34-35 and Deuteronomy 18:15. Luke implies the presence of the Holy Spirit, and Christ’s return at the eschaton, which were two of his major themes. This was in keeping with his plan to write a New Gospel law and book of prophecy that would parallel the Torah and Jewish Prophets.
Matthew reworked Mark's version of the Transfiguration story to integrate with many Old Testament prophecies and show convincingly how Jesus was the fulfillment of all that had been prophesied and hoped for. "

This saving grace consists of being admitted into the circle of divine relations and mutual indwellings of the Trinitarian God. Their mutual indwelling thus includes human beings: “Whoever abides in love abides in God, and God in him.” (1 John 4:16).22 If you see charity, you see the Trinity”, wrote Saint Augustine.

They all made mistakes, but they strove to be righteous. Each one of them had problems with paternity with the wife they loved the most. They all showed favoritism to one son. But the message to the Children of Israel during their exile in Egypt and much later in Babylon was that seal of the covenant would not be broken. The promise of blessing, of land, of increase, of God’s presence, and the respect of the Nations was not merely based on the Patriarch’s achievements, but the grace of God. The Psalmist would remind the faithful of God's actions on behalf of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in Psalm 105.
