The track is a recomposition based on a 1954 recording of a Damara (Namibian) praise song, held by Basler Afrika Bibliographien in Switzerland, that praises the honey bee. Very few people survive who remember the old songs and dances, and the hope of the wider Future Pasts project is that through collaborations like this, which bring indigenous songs to a contemporary audience, the Damara musical heritage will live on.. You can’t download A Bee Song from Bandcamp until next week, when it will be available on it’s own or as part of my new album.
Yes, you read that right – the new Banco de Gaia album, Trauma, is finally ready, with a release date of September 6th.
You will be able to pre-order Trauma from next Friday, May 3rd, from https://bancodegaia.bandcamp.com/album/trauma and will get two tracks straight away, with the rest available on release day.
To accomodate those of you who want signed CDs or vinyl, I’ve set up separate listings on the Bandcamp page. This is because all signed copies will need to be sent by my team from the UK, whereas unsigned copies may be sent by partners in your country and so cost less to ship. Please note there is no charge for me signing – this is just a way of navigating shipping rates.
Please also note that the release date is September 6th, not August 2 as Bandcamp has listed.
Finally, as any of you who follow me on Facebook know, I have a bunch of UK festival and venue shows lined up, with the confirmed list below. I’m looking forward to being back onstage and playing again.
Cheers,
Toby
