Mir | Banco de Gaia (original) (raw)

Ahead of the release of my new album Trauma next month, I’m proud to present Mir, a paean to peace in these tumultuous times.

Mir came about when I was working in the studio one day trying to come up with a rich, floaty texture and ended up with something quite similar to the start of Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here album. Well, once I had that it was hard not to follow the vibe and I got Matt Jenkins in to add some soprano sax which worked beautifully. This was around the time of the invasion of Ukraine and my thoughts were full of sadness for the friends in both countries who I quite possibly would never be able to see again. Wishing for a quick return to peace I named the track Mir, which is Russian for peace (and also the name of their now defunct space station).

Accompanying the original are two remixes: a sunrise special from Sheffield’s Darkly A.M. (AKA Mark from Animat/S.O.N.A.T.I.O.N.) and an acid house banger by Marine Boy (AKA Simon Power).

You can find Mir on

Back in the real world ;-), I had a wonderful time playing at The Rising and Whirl-y-Fayre festivals, and am next onstage at the end of this month at Off the Tracks festival, where dr trippy is also playing.

After that I have a run of headline shows to celebrate the album release, with dates and ticket links below. Nottingham has sold out already, with London tickets flying out and early bird tickets for Bristol also sold out.

I look forward to seeing some of you online at the listening party, and others on the dancefloor soon.

Cheers,

Toby
