BS Rules by Baringa-of-the-Wind on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

Rules

These rules are

finite

and you

may not

challenge or question them if you think they're not okay.
Everything that has an option is stated in these rules.
Nothing else can or will be changed.

Ageing

Both staff and horses age simultaneously at BS, yet are not in specific intervals and will age relative to new foals born.
(Foals born more than two weeks apart are technically a year apart and all elder horses and staff will age another year.)

Realism

BS is not a strictly realistic stables, yet does not wish to have fantasy breeds at the stables or bred with their realistic horses (affiliated stables only hold this privelge)
BS will

not

have winged; horned; giant; dwarf; crazy-colored e.t.c. horses at the stables.
We do our best at BS to keep horses within their breed standards - height; build; uses only - but

do

stretch the boundary for

colors

At BS there are Rabicano Friesians; Framed Overo Thoroughbreds; Tobiano Arabians e.t.c.

Naming

Only horses born inside the

Beaumont Grounds

or by a breeding requested by BS may have 'Beaumont's' before their name.
Wild Bashki kept at BS may also have it.
Horses bred from BS studs/broods are

required

to have some link in naming.
Bullet Biscuit is related to Bite the Bullet and has a son named Bullet on the Beach who was dammed by Malibu.

Breeding

To request a breeding:
Send a

note

to Baringa-of-the-Wind entitled 'Breeding with (BS horse)'.
This note should include:

Horse's Registered Name:
Gender:
Breed:
Color:
Genotype:
Lineage: (if not foundation) (dam and sire)
Link to Reference:
Any Other Information:

Please respect the restrictions on the horse's pages and send a separate note if you want to stretch these restrictions instead of outrightly requesting a breeding between my realistic TB and a 13.2hh Mustang.

The breeding picture will signify when the breeding is official and must include at least 1/4 of each horse (preferably their heads.)

🆕 The foal must be drawn/born within 30 days of the breeding being approved

🆕 Once the breeding picture has been drawn and breeding completely approved, if I have not designed the foal myself, I require to see the foal design before hand. NO exceptions! If you don't have your own template, find one off dA, you are not allowed to draw the foal picture unless I have approved the design. The design is not only the foal's coat color and patterning, but the traits it's inherited. All BS horses have passable traits, and recently i've been updating them so they are easier to understand.

For example:
Here are Bullet's traits:

Physical Traits:
Body-Shape-Size-Type
:bulletred: Lean build (100%)
:bulletred: Deep chest (50%)
:bulletred: Fragile build (20%)
:bulletred: Physical strength (90%)
:bulletred: Strong lungs (20%)
Color-Pattern-Markings (genetically decided – no exceptions)
:bulletred: Red coloring (50%) [#2 gen]
:bulletred: Black coloring (50%) [#2 gen]
:bulletred: Family race marking (60%) [#2 gen]
:bulletred: Family star marking (50%) [#2 gen]
:bulletred: Similar leg markings (80%) [#2 gen]
:bulletred: Extended gray (90%) [#2 gen]
Personality Traits:
:bulletred: Assertive (50%)
:bulletred: Proud (5%)
:bulletred: Sweet nature to other horses (70%)
:bulletred: Gentle temperament (50%)
:bulletred: Strong emotional bonds (90%)

This means that

all

his foals will have a lean build - no stocky Thoroughbreds - and since he's not going to be bred to a Shire, the foals will, even if half Warmblood, look rather lean.
Half will have his deep chest, a fifth will have his fragile build (spindly legs e.t.c.) And almost all will be phyically strong. And so on.

[#2 gen]
Means that the trait is inherited from a parent, ones that do not have it are new traits just for that horse since there must be 5 physical and tempermental traits for each BS horse (disregarding color/pattern/markings.)

I don't mind if you take on board the [#gen] or the traits for the foal, but you

may not

copy my entire system (that simply means the format of my horses' refs, feel free to use the trait and passability system.

If

you

are designing the foal, I want you to pay a DAMN load of attention to the next part of this.

Bullet:
:bulletred: Red coloring (50%) [#2 gen]
:bulletred: Black coloring (50%) [#2 gen]
:bulletred: Family race marking (60%) [#2 gen]
:bulletred: Family star marking (50%) [#2 gen]
:bulletred: Similar leg markings (80%) [#2 gen]
:bulletred: Extended gray (90%) [#2 gen]

If you don't have any/much knowledge of horse genetics, they're pretty simple, so go look for a tutorial on here.
Basically,

half

of Bullet's foals will have the 'A' (red) gene, and half will have the 'E' (black) gene. Depending on who he's bred to depends on the shade of their coat, but Bullet is a

copper bay

, bright, rich and vibrant. Unless the mare is a dull bay, the foal will probably have a bright coat.

Bullet's family, for example, tends to exhibit slightly extended gray around their muzzle and eyes - foals should show this to some extent.

Look at the leg markings for both parents and try and find an in-between.

Bullet's family also exhibits a distinct race off the near side of their face (more obvious on Sky), so the foal should probably show this somewhat. They also all have a star, so it's pretty unlikely that they're not going to get any facial markings if the mare shows some too.

Nevertheless, I would like you to use a random number generator to show whether the foal will show any of these traits. So, if the mare has no facial markings, and the foal's numbers are 80 and 70 for the 'Family race marking (60%)' and 'Family star marking (50%)' the foal won't show any, or will have something much smaller and not connected to Bullet.

:bulletred: Assertive (50%)
:bulletred: Proud (5%)
:bulletred: Sweet nature to other horses (70%)
:bulletred: Gentle temperament (50%)
:bulletred: Strong emotional bonds (90%)

The personality traits are also important, since foals most often are literally the personality product of their parents.
Bullet is assertive, arrogant and gets very attached to other horses and people. If he's bred to a shy, quiet, conservative, independent mare, you'll have something in the middle - generally, but a foal similar to himself if the mare herself is proud.
The traits are generally guidelines, so they're not as important to the foal design as the color and patterns, but it can make a good character. If the foal inherits Bullet's assertiveness but his mother's easy-going nature, it will be far more interesting to write about and develop than a stock character with the perfect temperament.

Something that is a new development for BS, and is

not

compulsory to have in the design, is the marking of conformation and ability.

Confirmation Scoring:

Extension: --------------------- 2/5 » 4+ » 4/5

These just give an idea of how Bullet stands in the rankings of conformation/speed/adaptability e.t.c. But could also be a guideline for how the foal is.
Bullet has near perfect conformation, and therefore his foals will probably be very good examples of the breed in that way too, but struggles with stamina and jumping widths, the foals will most often be like this too. He is also very fast = fast foals.
Keep that in mind.
However, every horse is different and also trainable, so his stats are updated as he is trained and becomes more experienced (the final marks are

not

passable - it's the original marks that he was born with and are in his genetic makeup.)

If you have any questions, please note me and i'll get back to you ASAP.

The foal is born when the foal picture is submitted with adequate details on dA.

Breeding Age

Mares must be

over the age of 5

to breed with and stallions must be

over the age of 4.

For mares, having a foal under the age of three is absurd, and under the age of four still poses a health risk to the mare, who herself is still growing and developing at that age. We feel that if she were to be put in foal before her fifth birthday, her own growth could be jeopardized in aim to keep the unborn foal healthy. She may also be unable to foal healthily and without complications, not to mention that elder mares would take a more mature approach to raising their offspring - which may benefit the foal.

For stallions, whilst we do not condone the use of A.I., we have and will always prefer mares to be live-covered and a stallion under the age of 4 (still technically a colt) is driven by his testosterone. However, unlike adult stallions, could easily be too boisterous and immature to cover her effectively and may even harm the mare in his incompetence.

Foal Design

Unless specified on their pages, you may design the foal, but you

must

respect my opinion if I feel the design is not adequate and the foal will still be

unborn

until it is fixed.

I suggest you contact me via note when you have decided on the design for the foal and maybe use a free template on the site to show the markings and color.
I will also require the genetics of the foal to be accurate (ask me if you're unsure of anything about equine genetics) and so you will

never

get a palomino foal out of two black parents e.t.c.
