the Library of the Romanian Academy, which is viewed in the context of the Slavonic-
Romanian and Slavonic-Byzantines literary relationship during the Middle
Ages. Despite BAR Ms.Sl.636 has been already introduced to the scholarly community,
the current research is the first in range to describe exhaustedly its content. It
comprises canon law, anti-heretic, historical-chorographical, apocryphal and other
texts according to the notion of core and periphery of miscellanies of mixed content.
The authors sustain the opinion that such a compilation was brought to life in
Moldova, from where the manuscript comes, but substantial portion of texts were
copied upon South-Slavonic protographs; some originated from Mount Athos, isolated
texts had a Russian provenance. Those tendencies, especially the anti-heretical
line, are analyzed in broad social and historical context with reference to processes
and events in the principality of Moldova in the second half of the 15th –the 16th centuries,
directed to the protection of the Orthodoxy. The manuscript is at the same
time a result and an instrument for this policy from both the Ruler’s institution and
the devoted to the Orthodoxy monastic milieu.

The use of the statistical methods offers some impressive results in regard to the correlation betwe~n the terms of Byzantine origin (translated or transliterated from Greek) and those that derive from Bulgar language, either purely Slavonic terms or ones of other derivation. About three quarters of the terminology derives from the juridical language of the Eastern Roman Empire! These results might be supported by the observations on the fiscal terms, the appellations of the territorial units and so on. Needless to say that these results are not unexpectedthey confirm again the affiliation of the mediaeval Bulgaria to the East Roman or byzantine civilisation.
