This thesis undertakes an examination of Dwyer’s logbook recorded during the slave voyage of the Fox from Liverpool to Africa and the West Indies undertaken throughout the years 1773 and 1774. The Fox is one example of a slave venture supported by the slave trading merchant William Davenport during his career lasting from 1748 until 1786. The text that follows will enhance the work formerly undertaken by those who have investigated Davenport’s business career. The logbook allows this thesis to produce a microhistory which will show the experience of one slaving vessel in the eighteenth century transatlantic world. A demonstration of the Fox’s voyage from Liverpool to Africa and the West Indies will contextualise the slave venture, in its completion of the triangular movement of the transatlantic slave trade during the eighteenth century. Analysing the contents of the logbook will contribute new information to the histories of eighteenth century Liverpool merchants, the African slave market, the Middle Passage and the West Indies. The thesis, in its final form, will have uncovered information recorded in the logbook of the Fox, written by Thomas Dwyer, demonstrating the on board processes undertaken throughout the voyage.

This dissertation will show the connection between sports organisations and the civic institutional networks within the city of Bath between 1825 and 1835. Abridging the current gap in historical studies this piece encompasses the history of cricket, the middle class and the concept of civic institutions. Focusing on how the middle class of the early nineteenth century constructed civic identity within the civic institutions at a national level, the research will focus on the members of Lansdown Cricket Club and their role within the civic institutional network within Bath.

Mastering the ability of ‘spitting fact after fact about social injustice and knowledge as power, weaving them together with sharply-crafted insight’ contributes to the power of Akala’s lyrics and the melange of musical techniques used to perform his tracks. Akala’s combination of educated lyrics, his evident wide reading and comprehensive knowledge of historical facts, contribute to his musical panache. His musical crusades also address; the violent truth of the trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, the abolition of the trade, the civil rights movement of previous generations and the struggles non-Caucasian citizens encounter in modern day Britain.

Throughout its duration, the Prayer Book Rebellion included confrontations between rebels and forces loyal to the King, from West Cornwall to North East Devon. In order to assess how successful the Prayer Book Rebellion of 1549 was, this essay will consider, not solely, the aims of the insurgents, but will also evaluate how conflict between local forces and those loyal to the King proved in the attempt to accomplish the proposed aims.
