The highly heterogeneous and complex farm holdings operated by the smallholders in developing cou... more The highly heterogeneous and complex farm holdings operated by the smallholders in developing countries are often deprived of optimum production and profitability. The farming systems in the state of Jharkhand, India, are heterogeneous due to biophysical (e.g., climatic conditions, fertilizer status, elevation, etc.) and socio-economic (investment potential, production goals, income preferences) factors. The extension interventions to reach the smallholders often face the one-size-fits-all approach making farming less attractive with diminished potential. There is a need to understand the diversity of the farms to classify them into different homogenous groups after studying the nature and characteristics of the farm and operators on the farms. This article is based on reviews of studies in the field of journalism education in India after t... more This article is based on reviews of studies in the field of journalism education in India after the proliferation of the Internet, particularly after the year 2010. The journalism practices have undergone a significant change in the past two decades, with the enabling of new information technologies, resulting in increased feedback from the audiences as well as globalized education opportunities for the content creators. The article is based on the content analysis, using grounded theory as the qualitative research method, to identify various themes in journalism researches, from Indian universities during the same period. The implications of the results suggest that there is a wide gap between the research conducted in the educational institutions and the prevailing pattern in the journalism industry in the country.

Ethnopedology has gained importance in the recent years providing a better understanding of the l... more Ethnopedology has gained importance in the recent years providing a better understanding of the local community practices in relation to preserving local soil knowledge of indigenous and rural communities. Despite the use of soil among present day and ancient societies with respect to technology, key soil procedures and changes included are comparable. The present exploratory study is conducted in three tribal villages in Manipur state to study the ethnopedalogical classification on the basis of several indicators used by the farmers. Data was collected from the farmers through key informants focused group discussions, transect walk and brainstorming technique. The validation of the ethnopedological knowledge based on the physico – chemical properties of the soil determined from the laboratory testing ascertain that the classification of soil by the farmers. The findings of the study have important policy implications for sustainable agricultural practices in the region.

Case overview/synopsis Shashank, the CEO and co-founder of an agriculture-based Indian start-up Green Agrevolution Pvt Ltd (GAPL), is planning to reach out to more than one million farmers by 2021-2022, which is more than 20 times of the present volume. His team is presently serving around 42,000 farmers with a home-grown technological platform DeHaat which provides end–to-end services right from seed to the market. Micro-entrepreneurs are selected and groomed to act as local touchpoints for farmers in the respective catchment areas ranging from 3 to 5 km. Shashank has been a recipient of multiple accolades and recognition and is now firmly seated to drive his start-up to the next level of growth and pan-India market penetration.
