News
- More good news! Leverkusen has been selected as a host city for the Women's World Cup 2011. Naturally, this follows that the BayArena has been confirmed as a host stadium.

Of particular note in the article:
However, the Executive wished to recognise the strong commitment to girls' and women's football made by all three regional associations- Westphalia (Bochum and Bielefeld), Mid-Rhine (Leverkusen) and Lower Rhine (Monchengladbach). After careful consideration of the arguments for and against, Leverkusen was preferred to Bielefeld.

The Opening Ceremony and Match will be at the Berlin Olympic Stadium on 26 June 2011.

The other cities/stadia are:

1. Augsburg (Augsburg's new "Impuls Arena" will be completed in 2009)

2. Moenchengladbach (Borussia Park)

3. Wolfsburg (Volkswagen Arena)

4. Dresden (New stadium to be completed in 2009)

5. Sinsheim (At the new Rhein-Neckar Arena being built for TSG 1899 Hoffenheim which will be finished in January 2009)

6. Bochum (Ruhrstadion)

7. Frankfurt (Commerzbank Arena; the Final to be held here)

Speaking as a female football fan, I am pleased that our club has been rewarded for their efforts and investment in women's football. It goes without saying that it is an honour for BayArena to be chosen to host matches for the most prestigious event in the sport.

News
- The renovated BayArena will be host to a Germany vs South Africa international game come 9 September 2009. It will be the official opening event of the revamped BayArena and the opening game of the Nationalmannschaft for 2009/2010.
(Personal take: The architect's rendering of the expanded BayArena looks absolutely gorgeous. Oh, to be there to see it in person.)
- Our boss expresses his feelings regarding the Bochum vs Bayer game.
- Bayer extended Patrick Helmes' contract

to increase his value come next transfer season

as a reward for his excellent form.

- Bayer Leverkusen Offside
I'm sure everybody is familiar with the Offside Blog collective. This is the newest addition, which is for us! Please support Ines as she blogs about Bayer 04.
(Note: It doesn't seem to have been updated since August, but she's got exams. I might contact the maintainers if this situation persists but we shall see.)
- This is too old to be considered news but here is the 3 September Bundesliga round-up by Raphael Honigstein.
Why am I mentioning this an entire month late? It's because Bayer actually managed to get a mention. I adore his writing but a sore point with me remains that Mr Honigstein very, very rarely mentions Bayer in any of his Bundesliga articles for the Guardian. We rank so low, Hoffenheim (yes, Hoffenheim) has gotten more articles than us in recent times. I wager the only way Bayer can get his attention is if the entire team dressed in drag and did the hula.

Spring-cleaning
- The tags have been revamped to be more user-friendly and I redid the community info a little, though there are no major changes. Please feel free to tag all your future posts, I will create more if and when they become necessary.

In a happy coincidence, it is both Eid and Rosh Hashanah today (30 September 2008). I would like to wish any fans who celebrate either holy day the best wishes. :)

VfL Bochum 2 - 3 Bayer 04 Leverkusen
Goals (Bayer 04): A. Vidal (6'), Renato (21'), P. Helmes (61')
Goals (Vfl Bochum): Sestak (79'), Sinan (81')

VfL Bochum: Fernandes - Pfertzel, Maltritz, Yahia, C. Fuchs - Zdebel - Freier, Dabrowski - Ono - Sestak, Sinan

Bayer 04: Adler - Castro, Henrique, M. Friedrich, Kadlec - Rolfes - Renato Augusto, Vidal, Barnetta - Helmes, Kießling

Substitutions: O. Schröder for Zdebel (54), Azaouagh for Pfertzel (65), Gekas for Helmes (73), Dum for Barnetta (73), Mavraj for Ono (79), Schwegler for Renato Augusto (90 + 4)

The good?
- three points again
- Bayer is currently second in the Bundesliga table
- Patrick Helmes continues his good run of form

The bad?
- conceding two goals in the last 15 minutes. The defence has been porous to say the least. Whilst we seem (for the moment) to be operating on a "we'll just score more than the opposition" philosophy, it might very well backfire against more experienced, disciplined sides.

Match report here. I saw most of the match on a live stream. Very enjoyable from a fan's POV and the clean sheet is a good sight.

Bayer 04 is currently second in the league table, but this means nothing of course, since the rest of the matches will be played over the weekend.
