The BBC7 block (original) (raw)

| | Listening to Our Brave Boys.It is such a pity that the BBC still has not made this available considering the rubbish that do put out under the comedy label. At some point when I wasn't paying much attention BBC7 seems to have really started with the making of original shows. They've had quite a few sketch shows, or sitcom things, and seem to make a large number of new sci-fi dramas. Tonight sees another new thing; Tilt - a topical sketch show with spoof headines and audio-edited things and other such topical humour.Looks good to me. If (like me) you've previously discovered & enjoyed the series(s) of Baldi broadcast on BBC7, you'll probably enjoy today's afternoon play which is apparently a new series of it. Its on for the next couple of weeks on radio 4, and you can hear it here, or wait until about 3 years or so to listen to it on bbc7.... Not really BBC7 - but had anyone else realised that Oneword has been taken off air?I noticed its disappearance this morning and according to the website it stopped broadcasting last week. Apparently Channel 4 pulled its funding of the station so it can concentrate on the new stations it's launching. There is a message from the former programme manager here mentioning what's happened and saying goodbye. BBC 7 are making a programme for next year which includes the 'funniest radio comedy character' as voted for by you. Of course that means you need to vote, so off you go. The 12 candidates are:Eccles (the goons)The Glums (take it from here)Hancock (hancocks half hour)Julian & Sandy (round the horne)Captain Mainwaring (dads army)Gerald C. Potter (the intricate life of gerald c. potter)Alan Partridge (knowing me knowing you)Eric Pode (the burkis way)Charles Prentiss (absoloute power)Satan (old harrys game)John Shuttleworth (the shuttleworths)Albert & Harold Steptoe (steptoe and sun)You can vote for which you think is the best here. *Ahem.* Is this community on? testing testing?Anyway, no idea how much this interests anyone else but Thursday October the 11th @ 8:30am/10pm/3am Its been a bad week is being repeated, staring Hugh Dennis, Steve Punt, Jon Culshaw and... some other people. As this was the show that got me into the radio and my favourite radio show for quite some time, I'll certainly be listening (Although I believe the first couple of series were slightly different to the following 12 which could be intresting.) Some of you have probably already heard about Mark Watson's project, Crap At The Environment. If you haven't, you can find out more about it on their myspace: www.myspace.com/crapattheenvironment. Basically, it's a project to help make the environment a little bit better, even if you are Crap At The Environment. The aim is to make a difference while at the same time having a good time. I've just set up a LiveJournal community for the project: cate_project. In this comm, I'll be posting all the updates from the CATE myspace and also from the Pimp My Plant Pot project and CATE Disco. You can post almost anything you want in the comm -- ideas about new projects, discussions about environmental things, pictures of your plant pots, whatever you want. I know a lot of people find LJ easier to use than MySpace so hopefully this will be useful to those people. Thanks for reading!Mods, I'm sorry if this breaks any rules; feel free to delete if it does. X-posted like mad, sorry if this appears on your f-list more than once. Starting Tuesday November 7th BBC7 will be playing the first series of Revolting People every tuesday, and then Every episode of Old Harry's Game the subsequent tuesdays. :) x-posted to oldharrysgame I friggin' love ghost stories. I'm currently listening to the "Five Ghost Stories" series thats playing at 6:00pm every weeknight this week. It will be available on Listen Again for those who missed it.:>Ah...nothing like having a cup of tea late at night and putting your feet up and listening to ghost stories.Mood:calmcalm As you may have heard trailed, this Saturday on BBC7 the regular 3 hour comedy slot will be paying a tribute to the late Linda Smith.Close friend and fellow comedian Jeremy Hardy will be celebrating her life and her humour, as well as broadcasting the entire first series of her sitcom; "A Brief History of Timewasting".Firbroadcast in 2001, this series was written by and stars Linda Smith along with Chris Neil, Jeremy Hardy and guests like Jenni Murray, Colin Sell and Mark Steel. It joins Linda in her East London house, where she shares her life with her near live-in builder and near-dead neighbour. The programme is broadcast this Saturday morning at 9am, and repeated again at 8pm.X-posted to radio4comedy Has anyone else been listening to Mindwarp (Saturdays @ 1pm)? (Its the prequel to James Follett's fantastic Earthsearch series[Which is back on the 17th!Yey!]).Personally I think its one of the worst (or at least strangest) radio plays I've ever heard. A combination of bad acting and/or bad writing, seem to have robbed it of any real merit, other then its plot. What was the decision behind getting someone other then James Follett to adapt it for radio?Saturdays Light of a Thousand Suns (also by Follett) (Listen here) was absolutely brilliant, its writing seemed to be everything Mindwarp is not. Obviously I'll still be listing with excitement to Mindwarp part 3, but I still feel it could have been so much more...Anyway I can counterbalance that, by listing to the 'new' Sherlock Holmes stories; (weekdays @ 1pm) Bert Coules' original tales make a very good listen, and are just as good as his adaptations of the official adventures. Now there's a man who does good drama. On a completely unrelated note; if you're passing your local WHSmith's you might want to check out their CD rack. I bought Old Harry's Game Volume One for half price last week, and that offer seems to be available in other stores, which is always good. Some program highlights to add to your diary this week* First of all everyday this week is a reading of Round Ireland With A Fridge at 11:30 am & 6:30 pm which is a show by Tony Hawks following his trek round Ireland with a fridge. It’s a kinda cross of the drunken bet madness of Dave Gorman’s Googlewack adventure and the humorous travel documentary style of Ross Nobel Goes Global. Of course if your prefer your travel documentary’s fictional then you'll welcome the second series of Giles Wemmbelly-Hogg which is starting Tuesday at 10 pm. Not forgetting of course that GWH creator Marcus Brigstoke is on tonight’s Friday Night Stand up at 11 pm . (He'll also be appearing next month as PG Wodehouse’s Bertie Wooster in The Code Of The Woosters on Radio 4). Other shows worth mentioning are The Very World of Milton Jones which turns up on Saturday morning as part of the comedy controller-ship, and At Home with the Snails which is back on Thursday at **11:30 pm.**And if you're particularly sad/geeky/me you might want to listen to Saturdays Atomic Tales (6:30) which is some newly made program about a sci-fi thing or something, but is directed byAdam Bromley! (Don’t worry if you’ve no idea who this is; unless you have an embarrassingly large knowledge of radio there’s no reason you should.) (*does anyone do that?)Listening to:Serious About Comedy Woo! Next week's Friday comedy night show features Marcus Brigstoke. I like Marcus Brigstoke. It's on at 11pm.Tags:marcus brigstoke Previous 15 EntriesTop of Page | |
