biotope by VIB is an incubator program for impact agrifood biotech startup teams looking to impact people’s lives through innovation. Based in Flanders, we offer a stimulating environment where the leaders of tomorrow can strengthen both their business skills and technology in a personalized journey. Right from the start of our 12-month program, we supply significant preseed funding and work hands-on with a small cohort, helping teams transform their innovative ideas into businesses ready for seed funding. We support success through mentoring and access to high-tech facilities, fostering connections to a network of world-class experts, partners, and investors. Biotope helps startups take root and grow in a flourishing life sciences ecosystem.

What turns flowers, fruits, and berries red, purple, and blue? 🌺 The answer: flavonoids and anthocyanins--a group of plant compounds with numerous health benefits. These aromatic compounds are traditionally extracted from plants for use as functional ingredients and dietary supplements, or as natural colorants for foods, beverages, or personal care products. 🚩 The problem with extraction, though, is that it is very resource-intensive. It requires substantial amounts of land, water, and agrochemicals to obtain a relatively low yield. 🧩 In comes Lantana Bio with the missing piece to produce anthocyanins more sustainably.
