We are the #EUCivilSociety assembly, giving a voice to NGO's, employers and worker's associations across the EU.
About us
We are a consultative body that represents Europe's socio-occupational interest groups and other civil society organisations and gives them a forum to express their points of view on EU issues. Our 329 members work on a wide range of issues, and their 'opinions' on EU laws and proposals advise the other institutions, namely the European Parliament, Council and Commission.

- The first-ever G20 Brazil Social Summit put bold demands at the forefront: tackling hunger, poverty, inequality and urgent reforms in global governance. We played a central role, alongside President Lula da Silva to ensure civil society’s voice is integral in shaping a fairer future. Our President Oliver Röpke emphasized the key role of Economic and Social Councils in bridging governments, employers and civil society to create inclusive solutions for global challenges. President Röpke’s message reinforced our vision for democratic, fair and effective global policies and Europe’s commitment to a sustainable, just, and people-centered world. He also handed the Final Declaration to the Brazilian Government, joining civil society’s call for future G20 Presidencies to build on this momentum. With over 47,000 participants, this historic summit strengthened global solidarity and concluded with a clear commitment to equity, inclusion and participatory governance. - It's 35 years since the Velvet Revolution took place. On 17 November 1989, Czechoslovak students unfolded a powerful movement in the streets of Prague. Their demand for democracy, freedom and an end to the authoritarian rule ignited a historic shift that the fall of communism, reshaped their nation and inspired Europe and the world. To this day, the Velvet Revolution embodies the resilience of civil society and our commitment to safeguard freedom, fundamental rights, the rule of law and democracy.#EUHistory #VelvetRevolution

Did you know that women will be working for free from today until the end of the year? This is due to the gender pay gap in the EU which remains at 12.7%. It's time to balance the scales. We call for: ♀️ tackling labour market segregation; ♀️ better representation of women in decision-making positions; ♀️ challenging gender stereotypes through education. 🔍 Data from Eurostat. - Supporting competitiveness and sustainability across the EU is essential to meet new market needs, as reflected in the EU unemployment rate, which stands at 5.9%. We welcome the updated guidelines on employment policies and recommend: 🔹 to strengthen social partners' roles through social dialogue and collective bargaining in employment reforms and policy-making; 🔹 to boost labour supply and improve access to quality jobs; 🔹 stronger inclusion policies to promote equal opportunities in employment and career development; 🔹 to reinforce skills for the green and digital transitions and to ensure access to high-quality lifelong learning. - Back to the 9️⃣0️⃣ 's! ✍️ As EU citizens gained a larger role, we prioritised promoting a "Citizens' Europe." In our own-initiative opinion from 1992, we stressed that European citizenship should go beyond shared rights. 🇪🇺 In 1993, we hosted a major conference on this topic, bringing together EU institutions and civil society organizations' representatives. We also set up the Single Market Observatory which gave us the role to monitor it. 🤝 On 15 - 16 October 1999, we organised the first-ever European Civil Society Convention, bringing together 300 participants from various sectors to explore civil society's role in shaping the European project. We reinforced our position as a key link between EU institutions and organised civil society. Discover more: europa.eu/!GgGmjt📷 Archive footage © European Union#EUCivilSociety #EUHistory
