End of day 1 of the #EUH2Week! The week of all-things #hydrogen we have all been waiting for has kicked off in #Brussels. Here are some highlights of the first day: ⚖ On the opening day of the #HLPC, we looked at the #hydrogenevolution and how to navigate global and European dynamics in a complex world. Keynote speeches and addresses were made by: ➡️Pralhad Venkatesh Joshi, Minister, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) of India ➡️Mohamed Arkab, Ministry Energy and Mines of Algeria ➡️Attila Steiner, State Secretary for Energy and Climate of Hungary ➡️Shinichi Kihara, Director-General for International Policy on Carbon Neutrality, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan Followed by very interesting contributions of Martin Tengler (BloombergNEF), Katherina Reiche (German #HydrogenCouncil), Marcel Galjee (NLHydrogen), Tom Hautekiet (Belgian Hydrogen Council) and Frank Wouters (#MENAAlliance). Main takeaways: 👉 Hydrogen can be a vector of #decarbonisation in Europe and globally; 👉 Europe needs to work together, achieving a pan-European hydrogen industry. 👉 Need to harmonise and simplify #regulation🎪 Opening of the exhibition floor, including the ribbon-cutting of the Indian Pavilion. ❄ Hydrogen Europe’s Winter Market, fueled by HYDROGIN®, thyssenkrupp nucera’s signature drink with a hydrogen-inspired twist! 🍸 Get ready for day 2 – we'll be diving into two more conference streams and many more activities! - 🌟 As per #EUH2Week tradition, we are delighted to announce the publication of our yearly #HeroesOfHydrogen photobook. 🌟 Each year, we display four companies on the cutting edge of the sector across the value chain. This year’s third edition highlights the work of four very different companies, each of them united in their commitment to a #sustainable future. 🚛 In Germany, Daimler Truck AG showcases its #hydrogentruck – capable of traveling more than 1,000 kilometres without refuelling - and its cellcentric GmbH & Co. KG joint venture with Volvo Group manufacturing top of the range #fuelcells. 💧 In Estonia, the innovative #electrolyser design from Stargate Hydrogen demonstrates the importance of continued improvement to the technology to reduce the need for #criticalrawmaterials and improve efficiency. ⚓ In the Netherlands, the Port of Rotterdam is set to become one of the main European arteries of #hydrogen transport, building pipelines between hydrogen production projects and demand centres. 🚢 And in Italy, one of the world’s largest shipbuilders, FINCANTIERI, is on a mission to decarbonise the entire sector, with hydrogen as one of its key pillars in that endeavour.Manfred Schuckert | Andrea Engelen | Marko Virkebau | Jan Gustav Grolig | Rainer Küngas | Randolf Weterings | Katharina Gruenberg | Lydia Boktor | Caterina Cobino | Pierroberto Folgiero | Paolo Guglia, MSc, MBA, PMP, FRINA | European Hydrogen WeekThe book is available in print for Hydrogen Europe members only and online ➡ https://lnkd.in/e7St2ZHs

The Declaration, backed by several United Nations bodies, is a major initiative of the COP29 Presidency aimed at reducing #greenhousegas emissions and contributing to global #climate ambitions by gathering and making collective progress on #hydrogen. The COP29 Hydrogen Declaration calls for the global community to scale up hydrogen by acting on demand creation, standards and certification, finance, capacity building, trade, R&D, and sustainability. In addition, countries are specifically encouraged to include hydrogen in their national climate and energy plans and to monitor the progress made at #COP30. The COP29 Azerbaijan Presidency sees this as a crucial step “for both the public and private sectors to unlock the potential of a global market for clean hydrogen and its derivatives with guiding principles and priorities, to address regulatory, technological, financing, and standardisation barriers.” Hydrogen Europe also supported the open letter of the Global Hydrogen Industry. This Hydrogen Council-led initiative is complementary to the Hydrogen Declaration as it underlines the actions to accelerate the deployment of clean hydrogen and its derivatives by 2030. Ivana Jemelkova, CEO of the Hydrogen Council, said “On behalf of the Hydrogen Council, we applaud the COP29 Presidency for recognising the important role of hydrogen in the #energytransition and putting forward the COP29 Hydrogen Declaration, which calls for bold action on demand and inclusion of hydrogen in the 2025 submission of Nationally Determined Contributions. Hydrogen has grown seven-fold in just the last four years, now reaching $75 billion in committed capital with 400+ large-scale projects around the world past FID. To deliver our shared climate goals, however, we need to do more, faster. Today’s Hydrogen Declaration is a key step in that direction, and we are grateful to 20 international industry partners including Hydrogen Europe for coming together to support it.” For more info: ➡ Full #H2Europe press release: https://lnkd.in/eqdQy8xX➡ COP29 Declarations and Pledges: https://lnkd.in/eG_NkFiy➡ Open letter from the global hydrogen industry: https://lnkd.in/ee_Vt--y
