— 🤝 NAAREA, SCK CEN, THORIZON, and STELLARIA announce a strategic collaborative research initiative on the effect of 35Cl cross-sections on neutronics quantities of interest for chlorine molten salt reactor design. NAAREA is designing a fast-spectrum XAMR molten salt reactor (MSR) using chloride-based fuel. Its ambition is to produce decentralized, low-carbon heat and power, while applying the principles of the circular economy by recycling long-lived nuclear waste. Thorizon, Stellaria and NAAREA are new actors working on molten salt reactors. Whereas SCK CEN is the Belgian Nuclear Research Centre involved in safety, design and qualification of nuclear technologies for more than 60 years. 🔬 The goal of the project is to gather integral experimental data on the effect of chlorine on neutronic quantities of interest in nuclear reactors. Results will then be analyzed against simulations to evaluate their accuracy. In a second phase, these data will be used to expand knowledge on 35Cl cross-sections and their associated uncertainty through integral data assimilation. This new dataset will help the reactor design effort carried out by the participants to the project. 📚 The project is supported by SCK CEN and the OFFERR program of the SNETP commencing in September for the first results in January. We look forward to sharing the knowledge we have gained with the scientific community in the near future. - 📣 Exciting career opportunities at SCK CEN, the Belgian Nuclear Research Centre! ☢️ Are you ready to join the forefront of nuclear innovation and make a positive impact on our future?
