We Are The Beautiful Geeks (original) (raw)
such a pretty house, such a pretty garden... | [31 Jan 2006|03:48pm] |

Alrighty.I've gone all pretty layout with the community, plus I've updated the info section, which includes a tweaked application, new promotional banner and some changes to the rules. Go ahead and check that shiz out, and let me know what you think. It'd be super awesome if y'all could do some meaningless promotion this week. Wether it's on your own journals, or in a community (don't promote if it's not allowed though, that's never a good thing) or even on a message board or website, any thing works 'fer us. Some new blood and applications in our mix would certainly be very cool. | |

Stamped // Hot in the face for a nerd. | [20 Jan 2006|01:53am] |
---|---|
[ **mood** | bored ] Oh my. Up until now, none of my friends have proved to look very geeky, except maybe the most Geek of them all, but he's always been unique. However, a friend of mine, Emily, sent me two pictures of this kid I went to school with last year, in New Hampshire. She was beside herself in laughter and disbelief at his ugliness, so she said. However, under inspection of said pictures, although he's a little much on the acne, this kid is hot. Hot? Dare I say... sexy. I would post the pictures, but I didn't save them. Emily laughed her ass off at me, but then I did her algebra homework in my head, and she shut up. :p | |

Sorry about the inactivity of late. I've been extremely busy and extremely comp-less at school, but it's vacation time now! Marshall and I broke up (two and a half years down the drain and lots of things that shouldn't be allowed to be taken back were taken back...) I dyed my hair red, so here's some new pics. X-posted.( beforeCollapse )&( afterCollapse ) | |

[ mood** | blank ] I'm transferring my livejournal to heliocentrism, by the by.---I have had the most geeky christmas ever. Santa brought me a porcelain R2D2 mug, a 256mb video card finally compatible with my Marie, a lightsaber, new cell phone, and a toy millenium falcon. Completely awesome. My friend Cassie bought me a book, What's the Difference? by Marc Tyler Nobleman.( It included a section between geeks/nerds, reading as such:Collapse )**What was the "geekiest" gift you recieved? | |

Arkine. | [17 Dec 2005|02:12pm] |
---|---|
So, I've been in withdrawal lately, because it seems my high school has a Force blockade around it. My force doesn't work, and there are no Jedis! Apparently, there are no geeks either, and so I've been forced to go without LARPing for 7 months. Yesterday I had a freaking hallucination. I was standing at the bus stop, and felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned around, and there was Rokann, my friend's character. I like, saw him, with my eyes. He talked to me and said, "Hello Delenti(my character). Bit chilly to be so far from Rubyridge(character's estate), eh?" I spoke back to him as though I were Delenti, but he didn't go awya. He followed me onto the bus, sat with me and we talked. Even in first period, we sat and spoke together. I realize now how bizarre it must have been if anyone had noticed me whispering to air beside me in slight accent and eloquent words of fantasy worlds (when we were in 3rd grade, I created a world with him and afriend called Arkine, and we continued work on it through the present. He has his own now, Itterun, but we always LARP in an Arkine setting). In anycase, I thought I'd share my geek withdrawal, and try to ressurect the community with at least one post. | |

last night, i met tim brooke-taylor & graeme garden. that's right, folks... i met 2/3 of The Goodies.my luffley boyfriend, myusernamesucks, bought us tickets to go to their "Still Alive on Stage" tour, which was hilarious. they all sound exactly the same. mr oddie wasn't there in person, but he had some pre-recorded stuff on a big screen. they did another show after the one we went to, so we went to the pub and had a beer, then went and waited by the stage door. we were the first people in, what turned out to be, a long line of dedicated fans. tim and graeme shook my boyfriends hand, and signed his "I'm Sorry, I'll Read That Again" book (which is scripts from an old radio serial that the guys used to do) and tim called me sweety, and signed my Goodies DVD. i said to them "have a great night!" and they both said "oh, thanks!".one of my long-life dreams has come true. huzzah 'fer me. | |

Questions | [14 Nov 2005|08:31am] |
---|---|
So I was think about our application as I lied in bed last night, trying for sleep. We have ourselves a very fine application. It's really quite good at distinguishing the cool people from the less-cool sucky people. But we have a problem:It measures geekiness like a measuring cup measures height. So I have a proposition: we add a few more questions; not "what sort of ____ are you?" questions, but more along the lines of the "answer the damn question" questions. Perhaps ten general knowledge geeky questions, and the applicant picks three of them and answers them in depth.A good sample question might be "In Java, what is an anonymous inner class, and what can it do for a graphical user interface?"Just questions to test the geekiness, see. We need art questions, music questions, computer questions, gaming questions, and maybe a Douglas Adams question too ("What is the most uninteresting sight in the universe?").Is this a good idea, and if so, any questions? | |

Mad as shit | [17 Nov 2005|12:39pm] |
---|---|
OMG!! I CAN'T BELIEEEEEEEVE THIS SHIT! Ok I'm just a bit bitter and hella irritated. Ok so here's the deal right....there's this guy.....me and guy were decent friends....then we started hanging out more...then me and dude made out (whoot) and ever since that day...dude has been somewhat stand-offish....and quite the asshole....and of course it just got worse and worse...and today I just had it.....so how many ladies are FAMILIAR with thei stroy EHH!!?? I mean c'mon!! I really hate guys anyway...like almost literally. But anywa the "plot line" of this little story is ofcourse not AT ALL that uncommon....doesn't 85% of the time happen like that anyway? But its just that when ya think ya may have found good people...they turn right around, laugh at ya, and piss in your face. It's ridiculous cause I so thought he was a relatively decent...and he's absolutely no different than any other dude. It makes me sick to think that I have a penis lol. I'm not really looking for advice or how to deal with the situation or w/ever...I've been here with EVERYONE it seems lol. I'm just venting about it so w/ever. Thanks for reading for those of you who gave a shit lol....I certainly don't anymore!<-Kev-> | |

Metric clockiness! | [20 Oct 2005|07:42am] |
---|---|
[ **mood** | accomplished ] So I wrote a Metric clock. Yep.There's just one thing about this one: it's really easy to understand. And it puts things in a whole new perspective, timewise. The basic unit on the clock is a day - one rotation of the earth. "Wait, how will we measure, then, how long it would take to microwave some ramen?", you might ask. It's simple. The clock is basically a ratio: the amount of day that has passed over a whole day. Therefore, noon on the clock would be .5000, 6AM would be .2500, 6PM would be .7500, and right now would be .2958, being 7:46AM. Just under three-tenths of a day has passed.Anyway, I wrote it up in VB, and I have the source and a compiled executable for download, if anyone wants to tinker with it. The time refreshes every second, and it takes 8.64 seconds for the clock to change - for a bit to go by. Anyway, enjoy.http://s23.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3JDN2HBBYELEC38CR4Q1TIOAWZhttp://s8.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=01GTZ9MNVC1670LYINDC0ZX80G | |

Hmm... I think we should be more brutal, like these guys: (this would be a comment made about me)You seem... boring. You say the application is short but really that just goes to show how unimaginative you are. For goodness sake, go look at some of the other applications. Look at mine, for instance. I had to stop myself otherwise I would have written a goddamn novel. Don't complain that it was "too short" when you don't take the time to use the questions as springboards. You're either very unimaginative, which in all honesty, you DO seem to be, having almost completely assimilated into the whole Japanese gamer pretty-boy thing.Plus a lot of the members are like "noo don't leave yet" blah blah and I think it's rather lame. You obviously don't really want to be here, OR, you simply don't have time for a place like this, judging by your half-assed application. We shouldn't have to beg people to care or to stay or anything, and we shouldn't really have to ask people to re-apply. You either need to give this place your best shot, really show off your intelligence or personality, or give it to the members when they request it. You've, unfortunately, have not tried to do either. So sorry, thanks, and I'm going to do as you requested and leave you alone.Owwie. | |
