Concerning my last post... My last post was met with some amount of hostility, and while some of the feedback was harsh I feel it was well deserved. Nothing drives me more than criticism. That said, I have revised the article into a manner that I hope is less dogmatic and just more informative. After re-reading the article this morning, as I was trying to tweak it, I found many sections where my own fears and anger of past circumstances were glaring me in the face. This is not my intention for Craft Haven--to rant, and point fingers. I merely wish to be educational and to provide comfort to those seeking it. I will be more diligent here on out to make sure that I do not offend people. I am not naive in thinking that I can please everyone, but these past few hours have shown me that I can do much better.If you wish to read the revised article, please refer to my last post for the link. Pagan Sexuality So recently I wrote an article about pagan sexuality. It was successful to a large degree. My goal was to be as upfront about the subject as I could be. You hear of so many people who mark sex as taboo, or they are at the very least embarrassed about the subject.Why is this? The idea of sex ranges from an oppressed 'I am a sinner' view, to the carefree 'sex is a hobby' view. Where's the balance? I understand that the majority of people today grow up in households with parents whose best idea to keep their kid from 'promiscuity' is to tell them how wrong and disgusting sex is. What a mind trip!I was part of a Christian family in my teens. My hormones were running wild around age seventeen. I was already inclined to be a 'rebel' and I can only imagine if my parents told me the above viewpoint. No doubt, I would only have gone to see for myself. Yet, I'm not like everybody. There are some people who take what their parents say as gospel (excuse the pun) and end up with their entire outlook on a life of love, tainted to a depressing degree.What comes as a surprise is the look on peoples faces when they read that having safe and responsible sex is enjoyable. It widens peoples eyes with an expression of, "really?". Yes, really. Outside of being a responsible, loving adult, I don't feel that there should be any other sex rule. Sex is natural and should be enjoyed, not shunned. You shouldn't have to feel bad about it.There are many other avenues I discussed in the article. If you would like to read it, just click here. Greetings! Hello everyone! This is officially my first post to this community, so I thought I would introduce myself. My pen/craft name is Marcus Briarstone, and I am a writer for a pagan informational website known as Craft Haven.I am male, 26 years of age, and identify myself as an eclectic pagan. I do not follow a specific path as I find courage, strength, and harmony with most forms of earthen spirituality. I write to inform people of pagan history, celebrations, recipes, spells, and ultimately our common ground with many other faiths. It is through such that I find a sense of contentment; I drive myself to constantly update the website and provide accurate information through it, as well as my tweets on Twitter, and my posts here on Livejournal.The website is a baby for now. There is a ton of work to do. My goal is to have it fully fleshed out with several hundred articles by the end of this summer--accurate and thought provoking articles.I hope you all have a grand day. Don't let this go quietly Full story here.Elizabeth*, a Ugandan lesbian who is a rape and torture survivor, is being held at Yarl's Wood Detention Centre and is danger of being removed to Uganda early next week. She is unlikely to survive if returned.Elizabeth's solicitor is preparing to submit a fresh asylum application with substantial new evidence including a medical psychiatric report currently scheduled for completion on the 8th of June. However, she has been told Elizabeth is likely to be deported within the next week. It will be a grave injustice if Elizabeth is deported before all evidence has been considered.Elizabeth is a Ugandan lesbian who has been living in Manchester. She fled to the UK in 2004, having lived her life as a lesbian secretly for many years. One night after being out with friends at an underground gay club she was visited at her home by several men she now believes to have been associated with the Ugandan authorities. She was bundled into a car and taken to a so-called 'Safe House' - unofficial Ugandan prisons where torture is regularly practiced. Elizabeth was held for 5 months, during which time she was repeatedly raped, whipped and beaten. She eventually managed to escape, and fled to the UK where she claimed asylum.Elizabeth's asylum claim, and her appeal, have both been rejected. Whilst the adjudicators recognise that homosexuals are persecuted in Uganda, they do not believe that the term 'homosexual' and evidence relating to the treatment of homosexuals, applies to lesbians. They have also questioned her identity as a lesbian, because she had a child as a young woman, although this is common among British lesbians too. They show further misunderstandings about the nature of both underground gay communities, and of state sanctioned abduction, detention and torture.Elizabeth is in desperate and genuine fear of what awaits her if/when the Home Office forcibly deport her to Uganda. Not only has she been through the most terrible experiences, her long term partner has not be heard from or of since 2004; Elizabeth fears that she too has been abducted and detained. Unsurprisingly the abuse Elizabeth suffered in Uganda, and her fear and sadness at the apparent loss of her partner, has left Elizabeth depressed and extremely worried for her future.(from  kerrickadrian)Update: She's going to be deported Friday June 2 on KLM. Taken from a friend who got it from a friend who got it from a private post... True Story. A religion teacher assigned her class an essay on what makes a good Christian. One student wrote about praying nightly, say no to abortion, banning gay marriage, and donating money. The other student wrote about talking to God and allowing people to enjoy their lives, and supporting gay marriage. The day the teacher was to hand the papers back, she called up the second student and told him she would pray for him when he went to hell. The student asked why would he be going to hell, and why he got an F on his paper. The teacher told him that Catholisim is against gay marriage. The student looked at her for a minute, then said aloud, "I'm gay." The teacher kicked him out of class as if he had said fuck or worshiped Satan. A girl in the back of class who had a boyfriend and was obviously straight got up and left too.If you would leave the classroom, repost this. It doesn't matter if you're straight, bi, or gay. I am a 20 year old bisexual female from the state of Indiana in the United States. I receive newletters from the Human Rights Campaign and was recently informed of a bill introduced to the U.S. Congress that would repeal the "don't ask, don't tell" policy currently enforced among homosexuals in the United States Military. Basically, any known homosexual will be prevented from joining the military or discharged from the military simply because they are gay. This new bill, called the Military Readiness Enhancement Act, would do away with "don't ask, don't tell" and institute complete tolerance of homosexuals in the military.I wrote to my state representative, voicing my opinion on the bill, and asking him to support it. My request was denied. Apparently, my congressman believes that "homosexual activity is prejudicial to the good order and discipline of the armed services. For that reason, [he] oppose[s] any efforts that would allow known homosexuals to enter into or continue service in the military."Now, I'm not a naive person, and I did not expect miracles. But I do believe that this world is gradually changing. As homosexual, bisexual, and transgender people are being more open about their sexuality, we are starting to be accepted for who and what we are. Change will not happen in a day... it may not even happen in a decade.However, we need to let our voices be heard now, so that we can start changing the future one person at a time. For this reason, I'm asking you, whoever you are, wherever you're from, and whatever your sexuality is, to write to the United States Congress in support of this bill. Attention South Florida Atheists, Agnostics, Freethinkers, and Humanists Our current members and I of the Broward Atheists Meetup (www.browardatheists.com and in www.meetup.com) welcome all interested in atheism, theism, freethought, agnosticism, humanism, transhumanism, state and church seperation (otherwise known as seperation of sturch), and related topics to our Tuesday meetings after 6:30pm. The www.browardatheists.com website has details on our venue, it is currently a pub, but will change when more members are acquired. We're already bulging at the seams with an average attendance of about twelve. No matter your age, beliefs, or preferences, we'd like to hear your opinion. Even the sternest Christians may come and present their thoughts, because if you really believe we're going to hell, we sure don't want to be wrong about the subject, haha, but most members are pretty confident about their atheism and agnosticism. I mention the invitation only to be open-minded. Anyways, we usually discuss religion, politics, philosophy, etc. but do not feel obligated to have to order anything despite it being a pub. There is no membership fee either, it is an informal event so far seeing how we have too few to be more organized, but we'd like to be! And we'd like to have enough people to start some activism and be as productive as possible.Aside from the weekly Tuesday meetings, there are fun events such as campfires and beach barbeques scheduled. We sure would like to cooperate with other groups and more members to voice the rights and freedoms we and others deserve regardless of our beliefs and with your ideas and help, this can be made possible. The current goal is to eliminate the negative stigma attached to our labels by altruism and stoicism such as scholarships and good deeds. E-mail me with any questions or better yet, any one else you can get in contact with from the website to get a clearer understanding of who and what we are. We turn no one down and encourage debate, skepticism, and reason. The meetings are definitely worthwhile and interesting or else I wouldn't waste the little free time I have as a college student to invite any one else to come join the experience. Spoons _A friend has a deibilitating condition, and was explaining it using the story of spoons. I thought it fit here, so that the healthy here can try understand what it means to live life with illness, and those with such illness' may have an explaination to give those that don't understand._My best friend and I were in the diner talking. As usual, it was very late and we were eating French fries with gravy. Like normal girls our age, we spent a lot of time in the diner while in college, and most of the time we spent talking about boys, music or trivial things, that seemed very important at the time. We never got serious about anything in particular and spent most of our time laughing.As I went to take some of my medicine with a snack as I usually did, she watched me this time, with a kind of stare, instead of continuing the conversation. She then asked me out of the blue what it felt like to have Lupus and be sick. I was shocked not only because she asked the random question, but also because I assumed she knew all there was to know about Lupus. She came to doctors with me, she saw me walk with a cane, and throw up in the bathroom. She had seen me cry in pain, what else was there to know? I started to ramble on about pills, and aches and pains, but she kept pursuing, and didn't seem satisfied with my answers. I was a little surprised as being my roommate in college and friend for years; I thought she already knew the medical definition of Lupus. Then she looked at me with a face every sick person knows well, the face of pure curiosity about something no one healthy can truly understand. So how about we start a citizens initiative to define Civil Unions. They are, as yet, undefined in our state constitution as well as in the RCW.I think there would be a lot of resistance from the Gay community that it isn't everything they want. Granted, that would probably be the extremists in the Gay community. I bet we would get a lot of support amongst the Western half of the state.And yes, I am serious.
