O... more Countries from all over the world celebrate the eighth birthday of Open Access (OA) Initiative. Open Access is a good way of science results dissemination and its more effective use in developing countries. Serbian OA Initiative is established and the Consortium for Coordinated Acquisition (KoBSON) and Centre for Evaluation in Education and Science (CEON/CEES) have a prominent role there. Numerous Serbian academic and cultural institutions accept OA publishing policy. For the first time, Commission for user services of Serbian Library Association organized OA Week events in two academic institutions during October 2009: at the Library of the School of Medicine (University of Belgrade) and at the Central Library (University of Novi Sad). Also, important activity to be mentioned is education of PhD students held by the information specialists from Department for Scientific Information (University Library in Belgrade). Topic “Open Access and Copyright” is obligatory module of the lectu...

The visibility of Serbian scientific journals in the citation database Web of Science has risen significantly in the last decade. Results of this analysis show the presence of Serbian journals in Web of Science, JCR, Scopus and Serbian Citation Index (SCIndeks) during four years (2007 to 2010). The paper discusses different bibliometric parameters in Web of Science, JCR and the Scopus portal SCImago (citations, average citations/year, impact factor, Hirsch index) for Serbian journals. Bibliometric indicators that appear in the National Citation Index are also analyzed. The number of Serbian journals with impact factor has increased during the observed period. The impact of Serbian publishers rose remarkably in 2010, and Serbia has two highly ranked journals.

The University of Belgrade has 31 faculties and 11 institutes where 5000 lecturers and 2000 researchers are employed. In the last three years, we had 1093 requests for citation and found 79,767 citations in total. The structure of academic staff, the number of requests to create a bibliography of cited papers and the number of citations are not directly correlated. Most researchers are employed at technical colleges, and the largest percentage of requests and citations are related to the biomedical disciplines. Social Sciences at the University of Belgrade are represented by 25% of employees, and in the statistical analysis of the results of the University Library by less than 1%. We have done a statistical analysis of the number of citations for certain fields such as medicine, chemistry, physics, technical sciences, social sciences,...

It is important to have in mind that IF is varying very much in time. The range of IF for journals classified in the subject group ONCOLOGY is analyzed for the period 2000-2006. There are only seven of 127 journals in year 2006 which have IF higher than 10. The highest impact in the analyzed period has the journal CA-CANCERJ CLIN, varying from 24,674 to 63,342, but the important fact about that journal is that it publishes very small number of articles annually. The number of journals on the list also changed from 103 in 2000 to 127 in year 2006. Only one journal from the list is published in German and five are multilingual, all the rest are published in English language. Besides US (66), Great Britain (29), Holland (7), and Switzerland (6), all other 11 countries have few journals, mostly situated in the last part of the list ranked by IF. When choo...

In this paper we describe the steps in the introduction of IL in Serbian Universities. During the last ten years of the 20 th century our approach was "one instructor-one user".

This CIP ICT PSP project started in January 2011 and by 2013 a brand new library aggregator of Europeana will be operational and 5 million new items will be added to the digital portal of the European cultural heritage.

The demand for highly specialized knowledge that is often difficult to find and retain is also expressed. Knowledge management is a broader concept including a system for finding, understanding and using knowledge to achieve defined objectives. To some opinions, "knowledge management" is a new name for librarianship or at least a logical extension of librarianship. The theory and practice of knowledge management for some authors is a major paradigm in the management and use of "intellectual capital". Many aspects of knowledge management are recognized in well established practices in librarianship and information management, like knowledge elicitation and creation, knowledge dissemination, information retrieval and storage, information literacy, database design, team...

The first network of this type and, at the same time, the most developed one that was produced at the University of Princeton in the Laboratory for cognitive sciences, has served as a basis for the development of wordnets for many other languages. Wordnets that were developed in the scope of European research projects EuroWordNet and BalkaNet are aligned with the Princeton wordnet, which enables their successful use in many multi-lingual applications. The development of the Serbian wordnet was initiated during the BalkaNet project, and, after the end of that project, the work on its further development continued through the volunteer and cooperative work of many collaborators whose work is presented in this paper.
