Process data are being collected and
inputted manually into ERP system; this process is prone to error and time consuming. This has led to lack of timely and accurate information about the status of manufacturing resources on the shop-floor.
Internet of Things based technology solution is used to assist manufacturing automation in a selected case of valve manufacturing in order to address these challenges. Internet of Things technology solution relies on RFID and wireless sensor technology for real-time tracing and
tracking of manufacturing resources. Manufacturing resources (Operators, machines, work piece carrier, etc.) are equipped with Auto-ID devices and user interface of manufacturing execution system (MES) is provided on the shop floor so that operators can send real-time
updates about their operations to ERP system. The research reported in this thesis demonstrates how Internet of Thing based technology
solution can be used to overcome the challenges of real-time visibility of the status of the manufacturing resources by offering real-time information capturing from the shop-floor by Auto-ID devices and seamless integration of ERP system and MES with the shop-floor
