The aim is to show how a global company uses a knowledge management strategy to create value for stakeholders, provide a local access to know-how, offer tools for actionable decision making and builds a knowledge sharing culture among divisions. It also tries to fill the gap between the formal strategy and the existing practice of the Corporate Knowledge Manager. At the end, it studies how the manager can quantify the value brought by its action.

Global Responsibility has been at the heart of Tetra Pak's corporate culture for many years but it is only recently that it has become an explicit part of its 'strategy 2020'. This case study focuses specifically on business in the French market, although some elements are given from a global perspective. Tetra Pak France has been in a difficult competitive situation for several years with the appearance of dynamic new entrants. Tetra Pak France must react and innovate to retaliate while maintaining a strategy that is consistent with its values and responsible global corporate identity. The student is placed in a situation of being a professional consultant working for the general management team of Tetra Pak France.

In the last few years, the French audiovisual sector has been dramatically influenced by the digitalisation of content. Producers of content, such as TV channels, are now offering 'video on demand' (VOD) services that allow consumers to rent or buy videos on the Internet (via their websites or third-party distributors such as i-Tunes) and watch it on a computer, on a portable player or on a HD TV. For the students, the aim of the discussion is to carry out an analysis of the value chain of on-demand sales, to identify the 'profit pools' and to draw up recommendations for ARTE France Developpement. For the instructor, the pedagogical objective is to show students the movement towards greater integration within the value chain and the importance of defining a coherent business model which takes into account the competitive environment. The originality of this pedagogical case comes from the nature of the activity. VOD is a totally dematerialised service business and the study of this sheds light on the new trends relating to the consumption of audiovisual programmes.
