23rd International AIDS Candlelight Service this Sunday	[18 May 2007\|03:23pm]
This Sunday at 6 PM, SHARED, a local non-profit working to bring access to health care to the world's poor, is hosting the 23rd International AIDS Candlelight Service at Temple Sinai on 50 Sewall Av. in Brookline near Coolidge Corner. It is a nondenominational event so those of you who are atheist/agnostic/not religious/not Jewish/EVERYONE is welcome. While it is often grossly misrepresented as a "gay disease", HIV/AIDS is still an important issue in the LGBT community and while I know many of you live further away and or are very busy, I just wanted to let you all know about this event nontheless. Temple Sinai is the temple my family belongs to, so if you want to go but aren't sure to get there, I'll be more than happy to give you directions.Hope to see you there,Merri

Hey there everybody!The Arlington GSA is holding a movie night this Friday (December 9th) from 5 untill 8. I am the girl kicked out of her home because I confided in my mother that I am a lesbian.I am the prostitute working the streets because nobody will hire a transsexual woman.I am the sister who holds her gay brother tight through the painful, tear-filled nights.We are the parents who buried our daughter long before her time.I am the man who died alone in the hospital because they would not let my partner of twenty-seven years into the room.I am the foster child who wakes up with nightmares of being taken away from the two fathers who are the only loving family I have ever had. I wish they could adopt me.I am one of the lucky ones, I guess. I survived the attack that left me in a coma for three weeks, and in another year I will probably be able to walk again.I am not one of the lucky ones. I killed myself just weeks before graduating high school. It was simply too much to bear.We are the couple who had the realtor hang up on us when she found out we wanted to rent a one-bedroom for two men.I am the person who never knows which bathroom I should use if I want to avoid getting the management called on me.I am the mother who is not allowed to even visit the children I bore, nursed, and raised. The court says I am an unfit mother because I now live with another woman.I am the domestic-violence survivor who found the support system grow suddenly cold and distant when they found out my abusive partner is also a woman.I am the domestic-violence survivor who has no support system to turn to because I am male.I am the father who has never hugged his son because I grew up afraid to show affection to other men.I am the home-economics teacher who always wanted to teach gym until someone told me that only lesbians do that.I am the man who died when the paramedics stopped treating me as soon as they realized I was transsexual.I am the person who feels guilty because I think I could be a much better person if I didn’t have to always deal with society hating me.I am the man who stopped attending church, not because I don’t believe, but because they closed their doors to my kind.I am the person who has to hide what this world needs most, love.*Re-post this if you think homophobia is . . . problematic, in a word. hey chilluns...this is bobbie, and you're probably tired of me posting boston youth pride related things, especially because boston youth pride already happened, but this is more a bobbie related thing that happens to have to do with yp.ok, so i was on the youth committee directing youth pride, and at one point i was standing on charles street directing vendors into the boston common, and two cars from safer homes worcester came in. there was this really cute girl with a tongue ring and a tan shirt and a black hat driving the second car, and she was wicked cool, and i saw her later too, waiting for the butchies but i lost her when everyone went up on stage with the butchies and i didn't even get her name, because i'm a giant wuss and didn't ask her when i had the chance, even though everyone was telling me to. so if anyone reads this and somehow knows who she is... i know it's a long shot and i'm a loser to do this on LJ but i can't think of another way.so who knows the cute girl with the tongue ring from safer homes worcester?!?

Phelps’ website (http://www.godhatesfags.com) says that it has chosen Massachusetts because it is a “Satanic Zeitgeist wherein filthy, militant fags and dykes have seized control of Massachusetts’ government, sending feces-eaters to congress, and homosexual marriage is law.”Counter-demonstrations are already in the works for Lowell and Dracut, and organizers hope for a sizable turnout against the intolerant hate-speech of Fred Phelps and the Westboro Baptist Church. All who are opposed to Phelps’ presence and message are urged to attend and show him and his followers that Massachusetts won’t stand for antipathy toward our GLBT allies.
