_1:44 am_[arsbirds] | Hi! My names Angeleah, and just joined this community. I'm only in HS, but I no I want to be an avian vet. I have 7 birds, two of them being zebra finches,- with babies on the way, one Quaker, one Cockatiel, and 3 parakeets.!Obviously, I am currenlty breeding Zebra Finches. I have experience with it, but I was breeding somelsed birds, you'll probally find a better explanation on that on my journal. SO, this is the first time I'm breeding finches on my own and I'm quite excited!- for more info on my birds and myself please view my journal arsbirds. I also have a bird community allexoticbirdsI am also doing a bird related senior research paper, and it requires me to look at some bird related studies, specifically in regards to pelleted diets. However, I am finding it difficult to find a good avian Veterinary Journal, and was wondering if anyone here can lead me in the right direction? Current Mood: curious (Comment on this) |

_3:30 pm_[jsj4degrees] | we have a nest of birds in our fern on the front porch. they just hatched no more than a week ago. well, 4 out of 6 eggs hatched. today when i got home i saw a dead bird laying on the ground. im assuming my dog killed it. so i got the nest down and saw the baby birds. it's been about 45 minutes and the mother is no where in sight. i actually see no birds at all. and i had seen one this morning getting insects around my dog's house. now i just see a dead bird.so what do i do to take care of them if the mother is dead?all the vets around here will be closing shortly.they are pink and almost completely naked except a for a little bit of fuzz. i can still see the veins in their bodies and none of them seem to be able to open their eyes.what do i do with the little fellows? _2:57 pm_[kittycat_black] | A bald little female lovebird called Pepe... Hi! I'm new to this community... and to owning birds! My boyfriend and I have just moved to Chile and we rescued this poor bald little lovebird from a dodgy boarding house here. We've given her a mate and we're feeding her vitamin supplements etc. She's doing well and is very happy... she's eating ALL the time! We've even made her a website because everyone keeps asking how she is. lol ( www.savepepe.com )Anyway I was wondering if you guys would have any advice on how long it might take for her feathers to grow back? Also any other relevant advice would be much appreciated. Thanks so much! (Comment on this) |

_5:38 am_[meghan2812] | HiI have two birds and I don't have a clue what kind they are. My dad found them on a farm and brought them home. I have posted a picture of one under the cut. The other one is slightly bigger and it is white (I'm pretty sure they are the same kind). I live in the countryside in Spain, if that helps at all. Any information will be appreciated :D**( Photo of birdCollapse )** (5 Comments |Comment on this) |

_12:42 pm_[icaruslaughing] | Help... I'm really hoping someone can help me here...My mother-in-law, who lives with my husband and I, has conveniently forgotten about her animals. She has two cats, a dog, and five zebra finches. She took her dog with her to her boyfriend's house, but is otherwise neglecting the rest of them, only stopping by once a week to feed them. I have a cat and a dog of my own, so I can handle the cats. It's the birds that are the problem.I know next to nothing about birds. Can anyone give me pointers on how to take care of them? There are two females, and three males, zebra finches all. The females have been pulling out the males' feathers, and now the males are almost completely bald. What do I feed them? Do they need sand or gravel like some other birds? How often are you supposed to feed them? Does anyone know why they're plucking each others' feathers out? Any help at all would be appreciated!x-posted (1 Comment |Comment on this) |

_9:35 am_[even_starrs] | New Member Hello! My name is Melissa and I've recently joined this group!I've had almost every pet imaginable- from totises, snakes and other creepy-crawlies to parrots, horses, cows. a pot-bellied pig and even a wolf hybrid! I'm madly in love with all things furred, feathered or scaled. The only animal I flatly refuse to have anything to do with are scorpions. IF someone held a gun to my head, though, and asked about my favorite animal, I'd have to say that it would be my 'fids'!I am currently owned by a peach face lovebird called Ike and a cockatiel named Dory. My family and I have run a parrot-exclusive rescue for five years now, and I've been president for two out of those five. I've experience with cockatoos, macaws, greys, eclectus and even a hawk-head! Most of the birds that are surrenedered to us have behavioral and medical issues. The adoption fees we ask for are to cover the vet bills- and usually don't even dp that. We are not registered as of yet- but hope to be in the future! We rely heavily on certifided behavioralist and avian vet advise for some of our more difficult cases. With in the next year or so I am looking forward to going to Guelph University to finish up my avian/exotics vetrinary degree. I am also receiving two breeding pairs of opaline peach faced lovebirds- grand champion stock! I can't wait to show these beauties! I hope to breed orange face lutino into this unusual and rare mutation (NONE of the breeding birds came/come from the rescue- don't you fear!).My long-term career plan is to get into psittacine conservation- I'm not sure if I want to continue captive breeding efforts, feild research or lobbying as of yet. I will probably always have a large part in my families' parrot rescue.I look forward to hearing all about your own 'fids'! Current Mood: cheerful (Comment on this) |

_1:04 pm_[sircheverificus] | Bird Gender Question I saw this community and I figured that you guys would know better than anyone else since it's a breeding community! I'm taking care of a young cockatiel, too young to be able to know the gender without sending in a test, but I noticed that its back feathers were starting to get a yellowish tint. What color are female and male cockatiels? (1 Comment |Comment on this) |

_7:06 pm_[suidae] | Hi! I'm a new member. My name is Rhiannon & I'm a 20 year old studying animals in college. Found this community by listing aviary as an interest, and this seemed like a nice community!I'm not a bird breeder at the moment though. For the past year my dad and I have been building an aviary in our backyard, in the hopes that I someday can breed birds as a hobby. It's nowhere near finished because of other priorities getting in the way, but when it's finished I hope to breed rosie parakeets and possibily other breeds. But anywhoo. I also have a real question to ask right now. It seems that a family of mocking birds has nested in our front yard tree. I was wondering what kinds off foods can we feed the parents to help the babies along? I know they eat bugs, but any of ya'all know any specific foods to feed them? _11:47 am_[coffeetime] | New here Hi Amy! I found this community when I ran a search for bird communities. I have parrotlets, budgies and one tiel. My parrotlets had clutches which I handfed with the spoon feeding method. Currently, I don't have any clutches but am hoping that one of my pairs will lay eggs sometime down the road. Anyways, I just wanted to introduce myself and say thanks for starting this community! Current Mood: happy (4 Comments |Comment on this) |

_4:09 pm_[parrot_lady] | Hi all,This journal is open to who all are interested in breeding parrots or softbilled birds, and I hope that we all can share some information with newbies, or people that are looking to breed. This is NOT a community to post about parrots for sale or selling cages or anything like that.Lets keep things as goal orientated as we can, and as clean as possible.Picture sharing would be awesome, seeing the little nake feathered buts grow up is nice, but if you have large files, please place them behind an LJ cut tag so that this page is not slow loading.Welcome to all...and now a bit about myself,I've bred parrots for the past two years, had the first successful tiel clutch last year, and handfed those chicks from about 2 weeks old. Currently all I have is that pair of tiels, but I want to expand into other birds.I have a LOT of parrots at home, and those that are rescues will NOT be bred.Amy (2 Comments |Comment on this) |
