National Certification in Nicotine and Tobacco Treatment (NCNTT)
A voluntary national and international credential that provides foundational knowledge of nicotine and tobacco addiction, develops skills and strategies for nicotine and tobacco addiction counseling and examines related recovery and wellness issues.

Beta Testing Offer
The National Certification Commission for Addiction Professionals (NCC AP) has recently undergone a considerable project to revise and update the examination content for the National Certification for Nicotine and Tobacco Treatment (NCNTT) credential.
NCC AP now needs to gather data on how the newly developed examination will perform and determine if it will fairly assess those aspiring to attain the NCNTT credential.
Nicotine and tobacco treatment specialists are now able to test at a reduced cost as the data is being collected. Upon passing, the test score can be used to apply for the NCNTT credential.

You will receive your NCNTT Beta Test score four weeks after the testing period ends.
- To register for the NCAAC Beta examination, click here and schedule an online proctored testing session that can be completed in the comfort of a own home, office, or other quiet testing location.
- Test takers will have up to three hours (3) to complete the test.

- Be sure to select NCC AP (National Certification Commission for Addiction Professionals) as the Board the testing is for and enter !NCCAP as the authorization code.

Eligibility/Application Requirements
- Candidate must submit evidence of a GED, High School or higher diploma.
- Candidate has not for at least six-months prior to submitting their NCNTT application a) used combusted tobacco, b) used nicotine for non-therapeutic purposes, or c) provided treatment for a nicotine product that they are currently using.
- Candidate must submit a signed statement that they have read and adhere to the Nicotine/Tobacco Treatment Provider Code of Ethics.
- Candidate must be able to affirm not holding a credential(s)/license(s) that is encumbered in any manner or not holding a credential(s)/license(s) that is/has been subject to criminal or ethical complaint.
- Provide a certificate of successful completion of a Tobacco Treatment Specialist training program that is accredited by the Council for Tobacco Treatment Training Program. A current list of accredited Tobacco Treatment Specialist training programs can be found at www.ctttp.org/accredited-programs.
- Passing score on the NCNTT or NCTTP exam.
Fees
- Initial Credential Fee: $235.00
- Renewal Fee every two years: $200.00
Renewals
- NCNTT Renewal Application (Available January 1, 2024)
- Candidate has not for at least six-months prior to submitting their NCNTT application used any nicotine/tobacco products including electronic nicotine delivery devices such as e-cigarettes or nicotine vaporizers except as part of a specially authorized cultural or religious ceremony or practice, or pursuant to prescribed medical treatment.
- Submission of a signed statement that the candidate has read and subscribes to the NAADAC/NCC AP Nicotine/Tobacco Treatment Provider Code of Ethics.
- 26 hours of nicotine/tobacco continuing education every two years.
- Submission of a signed statement that the candidate has read and subscribes to the NAADAC/NCC AP Code of Ethics.
