Voltage quality of supply must be clean i.e. pure sinusoidal waveform of constant frequency 50 Hz in our country. But harmonics are introduced in the system because of non-linear loads. It distorts pure waveform, which affects different equipments differently. This paper presents a review on active filters and its classification. It also explains the effects of harmonics. It gives a little information about components of active filters & control strategy. It concludes with some additional features of using active filter for improvement in power quality.

Harmonic problems cause poor power transfer as ultimate effect and, hence, reduction in low efficiency of system. This paper includes the advantages and disadvantages of each technique. This includes the normal circuit connections and expected performance of each technique too. In addition to explaining the theory of operation, useful diagrams and charts are provided, so that the reader can directly apply this information for analysis of their own power system circumstances.

The reduction in harmonics reflects as improvement in power quality. This paper includes the operation of shunt active power filter. It also includes the Simulink model and their results. It also describes the PI controller used in Simulink model. The total harmonic distortion is compared with filter and without filter. The permissible limit of THD is also followed as per IEEE.

The main development can be seen in industrial and commercial sector in terms of low power consumption and more controllable process and management. But with these advantages, it causes to introduce harmonics in system. That's why; this paper focuses on the general system having harmonics due to non-linear loads and uses Tuned filter with Isolation transformer as Hybrid solution. This paper presents a simulation model with the different types of Tuned filters for mitigation of harmonics introduced in system due to presence of Non-linear load and also, a comparison is done in between various types of tuned filter as harmonic mitigation technique. The use of non-linear loads increases with increase in the technology level. It injects the harmonic contents in system. Thus, these injected harmonics can affect other connected system, that's why it should be eliminated or reduc...
