The Gender Public Advocacy Coalition is pleased to announce the release of its 2008 GENIUS Survey in partnership with Ernst & Young. GenderPAC works to ensure that classrooms, communities and workplaces are safe for everyone to learn, grow and succeed. The Gender Equality National Index for Universities & Schools (GENIUS), GenderPAC’s most recent effort to end discrimination and promote awareness, encourages colleges and universities to recognize the benefits of a GenderSAFEtm campus - supportive equitable and protective for all students. Choosing to participate in GENUIS sends a strong public statement that bullying or discriminating based on the race, sex or gender of a student, faculty, or staff member is not tolerated at your institution Fill out the survey at: www.gpac.org/GENIUS2008survey, and make sure that we have data for as many schools as possible. Your voice will help us continue to work towards a safe and welcoming environment for every student. While we greatly appreciate the interest taken in GENIUS by students, staff and faculty at academic institutions outside of the United States, at this time GENIUS is only able to track schools based in the United States.

We need to take some intelligent, united action.Phillip Hollsworth, offered this good idea: This makes MUCH MORESENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign thatwas going around last April or May! The oil companies justlaughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continueto "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more of aninconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT,whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can rreally work. Please read it and join with us! With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war. Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANYgasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do!! Now, don't whimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!I am sending this note to about thirty people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)...and so on, by the time the messagereaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers. If those three million get excited and ! pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all. (Ifyou don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician. But I am ... so trust me on this one.)How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. punk Vrs. All [25 Feb 2005|01:15am]
Saw the recent postings and was appalled. When was it that punks were meant to fight one another? When was it that we were to judge others? When did punks become so elitist? It started back in the old days. In the old days punks would see a prep and spit on him or her. In the old days they would get kicked out of clubs, then while close enough to still hear the music they would mosh wildly and do the worm on glass with no shirt on. Way back when they were determined to distance themselves from everybody else and ridicule all who didn't understand.Today the mindset is different but the same. Back then unity among punks was a really big thing, and today it is the same. The music was meant to offend but at the same time have a controled energy that people can mosh to without intentionally hurting your friends. The greatest show I ever went to with the most insane pit ever wasn't a huge concert, but a hole-in-the-wall place in a bad part of a city. TSOL was the main band who played at the end. First time I walked into the door I was greeted not just with punks, but rockabillies, greasers, goths, preps, GEEKS even. They were all seperate at first, but respected one another. When the small bands played a few of us moshed anyway. Then TSOL came into the scene. Everybody crowded into that jam-packed room, with the heavy-set rockabillies to my left and a couple of KIDS (must have been tens years old or younger) to my right. When the music played, all of us moshed together without a care in the world. That is what punk in my mind is. It isn't prejudice, it is discriminate. It isn't feral, but controlled. We aren't mindless fucking sheep bleating out whatever someone tells us is right, but we understand why we say what we say and how our actions and words affect the others around us.When someone calls out poser for liking Lincoln Park, he himself isn't a punk. When someone calls on that person for saying poser... he might be a punk, but chances are against it. No, a punk is someone who will yell at you for not thinking for yourself and believing whatever the media or the government has to say.The music we listen to should not tear punks apart, but inspire us to pull together. When you see someone listening to Slipknot, ask them what OTHER bands they like. Who knows, maybe they'll have a thing for Anti-Flag or Misfits. If not, fucking tell them to open their eyes and give them a list of bands regardless of how much they complain, tell them to listen to real punk music. Calling them a poser doesn't do anything, they don't understand, and you immediately make an ass of yourself for saying that word at all. Hell, they may just simply like slipknot and not consider themselves a punk at all, so use your fucking head.Overall, don't be an exclusive elitist because someone who wears a polo shirt and dorky glasses claims to be a punk. Some of my greatest friends look and act and pretty much are complete geeks playing video-games and talking over the net about complex programming, but they are punks because they share punk ideals, have a punk mindset, listen to punk music and are the type of people who will not sit around all day and wait for life to hand them a good-time on a silver platter. They make their own good times from playing D&D to hitting a pit.We need to be inclusive elitist, not afraid to correct others instead of ridicule them, not being patronizing but honestly trying to help. The screaming and wildness is a representation of our distress and an outlet for our pent-up anger and energy. Even so, we are always in control of ourselves, and we will never be labled as ignorant or as a hypocrite. In my opinion, if you are labled a hypocrite, or need to lable a hypocrite, you are no better than the system we are trying to unite against. Next time you feel the word poser coming to your lips, remember: we have control, we can help clear a path for those who are confused. Will you be the one who clears a path, or will you be just another obstruction, another obstacle that they will simply leap over and forget?Blessed Be,~Cercris~

you know what totally rules [24 Jan 2005|04:01am]
when people think they are SO punk they judge other people by the music they listen to, they think its popular to write in a livejournal about how the posers go to their school and listen to slipknot. man i wish i was 16 and claimed to be open minded while telling other people their opinions are stupid and they are idiots for liking certain bands.man that would rule.

please... [27 Dec 2004|07:00pm]
The other day I started talking to some kid who claimed to listen to punk. I figured whatever, I'll play along, so I asked him his favorite band.He replied with slipknot.I asked again, what was his favorite punk band.Slipknot again.I called him a poser after explaining that slipknot is the shit they resort to on the radio. He got pissed off (while I laughed,) and called me a preppy bitch.Which made me laugh even harder.
