_2:25 pm_[goddessdea] I think I may just dance ever have one of those days when you think "y'know there is some fucked up shit in my life right now, but for some bizzare reason I am indescribably happy." ?I love that. (Comment on this)

_8:37 am_[goddessdea] I know we're a quiet group... But I was wondering how we're all feeling about everything going on in San Francisco...I've seen two journal entires by men on my friends list talking about how their sick of hearing about it or the legality of it all...and to quote them "I totally support gay marriage but..." IF YOU TOTALLY SUPPORT IT DON'T COMPLAIN ABOUT IT! CELEBRATE WITH THE REST OF US!I've seen it little by little all over and it makes me mad. (2 Comments |Comment on this)

_2:03 pm_[lilithcoyote] Representations of Queer people in popular culture This is sort of a spin-off from something in Dea's journal (about feminist pop culture) and also something that just interests me a lot in general. More on that second part later. I am just interested to hear what people think about this.( Read more...Collapse )Anyways wow this is a huge topic, I alone could probably write 4 books about it, but anyways, I just want to know what people think:What do you like about what is out there right now? What do you not like?If you made a show about gay men/lesbians/bisexuals/transgender folk/queer life in general, what would it be like?If you could write a queer character or five into existing shows you like, what would they be like? What are the feminist implications of all the gay men and lesbians on TV being "pretty" in a conventional sense? What are the implications for queer culture?I'll come back and answer my own questions in a minute. (3 Comments |Comment on this)

_3:21 pm_[goddessdea] I began thinking why I created this board anyway....I guess I just wanted to talk to people about...everything. I liken it to the etc. sections on message boards. And I wanted it to be done without people pushing their issues on each other. I hated seeing all the anti-trans bs that came out of the mouths of "feminist" women, or the "feminists" who said people were bad feminists because they wanted to have kids, or they loved men, or they were white, or they liked the movie "Love Actually"...That's why I made such a point of mentioning that there are many ways to see the world, and I feel so strongly that if we feminists are going to get anywhere we have to put aside our pettiness and work together. It's like that "United we stand,,divded we fall" thing...Anyway...I figured I should pose a question to get the conversation flowing:And so I'll pose a few:-What would you like this community to be?-Should it have strict posting rules right off the bat?-If someone goes looking for a group like ours...what would they look up? (in other words what should go in our likes and dislikes little box)Thanks for joining...and thanks for sharing... (7 Comments |Comment on this)
_12:56 pm_[lilithcoyote] 32 Flavors and then some Great idea, Dea!I'm Jasper, age is easy, I'm 23, and definitely feminist...as for the rest, let's see what works today, hmm...I am...queer as fuck. A female pansy, a riot boi, a radical faerie, your average portly young gay man--with some assembly required, a labiated ass bandit with a fondness for fellow androgynes. Known as the handsomest dandy butch dyke ever to be a fag, I'm probably technically pansexual but really I just like anyone who looks good in a three piece suit and likes classical music--in other words, anyone gendered a lot like me--so I am just a big ole homo and rather smug about it. Identify as "gay" for cultural and political reasons as well as because of attractions, and "genderqueer" because it fits. "He" is strongly preferred but I only yell at people for using "she" if they're being mean or lazy.Rolemodels: Ferdinand the Bull, Mr. Humphries, Margaret Cho.I'm a 70s gay radical trapped in a riot grrrl's body.Ok this gets more fun the more accurate I make it, because I am a silly person and silly is accurate when talking about me. :pHow does the "cut" rule work, I haven't done that before?I like Aphrodite. I also like Artemis, but she sort of intimidates me--ok she REALLY intimidates me. I've heard she does bad, bad things to people who go back on promises to her, so although it seems she has courted me I shy away from getting too involved...bla bla bla yadda yadda, shuddup, Jasper...did I mention I talk too much? :p Current Mood: silly (4 Comments |Comment on this)
