Gauteng Province - South Africa Travel News (original) (raw)

South Africa’s smallest province, Gauteng, is its richest and the country’s busiest province by far – it seems that no one rests in Gauteng; the culture is one of urban indulgence and a ‘work hard, play hard’ mentality. In the Johannesburg metro, the nightlife is excellent, with many of the country’s hottest bars, restaurants and clubs located here.

No visit to Johannesburg would be complete without exploring her museums, art galleries, markets, monuments and malls. This is a shopaholic’s dream destination and visitors are assured of endless exploring opportunities and plenty of places to stock up on keepsakes. Massive malls lie alongside quirky African markets, boutiques are neighbours to street-side vendors; all setting the scene for some incredible shopping.

Together, Johannesburg and Pretoria offer a fantastic variety of cultural and historical sites. These include the Voortrekker Monument, Union Buildings, Freedom Park, the Nelson Mandela bronze statue at Sandton, and the Apartheid Museum.

Just a little outside Johannesburg and Pretoria is the incredible Cradle of Humankind, which is a World Heritage Site that may believe to be the origin of human beings. The province is also home to a wonderful collection of game reserves; where game drives / safaris, bird watching, wildlife photography, bush walks and hiking trails await.

Gauteng is where millions of international tourists begin their African adventure every year, thanks to its being the home of the OR Tambo International Airport. It has world-class facilities and amenities, as well as plenty of excellent accommodation
