I just found Ma-tsu dead this morning in her cage...
We really tried to bring her back after that surgery, but she's never recovered... We really did everything we could...
God, I miss her so much already... She changed my life. She really did. She inspired Blue Gorgon, inspired me in so many ways... We hoped she'd turn around but... God... She was such a sweetheart of a snake. My girl. Gorgeous, sweet, patient... we kind of knew this was coming but it doesn't make it any easier, not at all... God, we tried...

I'm sorry it's been so long since I've updated here! A lot's been going on, and I'll fess up to being overwhelmed!
The snakes are all doing great, better than ever although Ma-tsu's still putting off her shed! And though we've been talking big about moving to Oregon one of these days, it turns out we're headed back to Colorado and very very soon! We'll be out of here at the end of June with a car full of reptiles and rabbits and hauling it to the Rockies.
A sudden move like this (to me, a month notice is sudden!) is a bit chaotic but once settled in up North we'll be able to put a lot more into Blue Gorgon and our project plans!
So, in case anybody's wondered if I've fallen off the face of the earth - no, we're just running around like crazies trying to get a lot done and remain relatively sane in the process! ;)

Good news! Neptune is clean, and Ma-tsu is officially bug free! ^_^ Now it's just a matter of waiting till she sheds to get her stitches out. What a trooper! She's been such an angel through all this too, but no surprises there. I really do adore our vet. I wish we could take her and the techs with us when we move.
I also need to update the website, as the beauties definitely seem to prefer small rats over medium ones. One every week or every other week suits them just fine.

Ma-tsu update

Ma-tsu was an angel as usual for the vet (I love watching her hog-tie my favorite vet-tech, lol), and she got her first shot. I forgot to ask what exact species of tapeworm it is, and I don't remember the name of the drug. But in my defense I've been adjusting to a new sleep schedule (again) and have spread myself a bit thin, so brain stoppage happens. But I plan to ask Friday when I call; the middle of the week our vet is closed so they can be open for people on the weekends.
BUT she is doing very well, stitches healing up nice but still in for now. The doc wants to get them out before she sheds, but she'd like to wait another week or so. Ma-tsu's not close enough to shed for it to be a worry.
She gets a second shot in a couple of weeks. Our vet said that we shouldn't be seeing any bugs, her body should absorb them as foreign protein.
Let me just add, I love our vet. I really really do. I want to kidnap her and take her with us wherever we move. The techs too. I love talking with them and they love our animals. They're awesome.

Woot, finally happy with the Sphlynx. One down. :) Never done a snowy scene before, really, so this was a fun challenge. Plus this is an awfully cute muse of mine, who manifests as in a few different forms in Full Circle. S/He hasn't shown up yet, but s/he will. But this is what hir spirit looks like.

Sorry it's been so long since I've updated over here. Been distracted on a lot of fronts.
Good news: My work is on the cover of a lovely online mag called Timeless Spirit! This is the first time my art has been officially exhibited anywhere other than my own websites, so this is very exciting and I'm so moved by the subject and theme of the mag. Appreciation. :) I love it.
More good news: Ma-tsu's nodules? Not a tumor!
The bad news: It's tape worms?? D: Oddly, dead tape worms at that...
Symptoms of tapeworm infection differ according to the location of cysts formed in the body. And symptoms may not occur for months, or even years after infection. In some cases, there are no symptoms.Cysticerci in muscles may cause no symptoms but can form lumps under the skin.
The theory now is that she (if not both she and Neptune) was wild caught. Or fed unclean rats under her previous owner. I'm so so so grateful that we discovered this before we've bred. Talk about appreciation. The vets are now debating on how to treat this. Aside from her stitches from the initial removal, Ma-tsu is doing just fine. She's eating like a pig and doesn't seem to know or care that anything is wrong. Her overall health is great, and she's even gained weight. So she's a healthy girl other than the nasty bugs that have been hiding.
We're getting her taken care of, and Neptune will be checked thoroughly to make sure he's clean too. Poor babies! The "no symptoms" thing is a blessing and a curse... good that they don't suffer but bad that it's hard to catch! This too is why captive bred is always the best option. I knew when we got these two that they weren't coming from the best source. But I was too in love to care, and wanted to give them a better environment and care. That's exactly what I'm doing.

No word on Ma-tsu's nodules yet. The good news is that in all other ways -aside from needing desperately to shed- Ma-tsu is a healthy and even ovulating girl! She's even gained a little weight which is good. Not that Neptune's getting any action till she's shed and has a clean bill of health. She was, as always, a very good girl at the vet.

Ma-tsu has a vet appointment tomorrow... there's a strange soft lump on the upper third of her body that has me really worried. She hasn't been herself in a while... at least whatever the lump is, it's small. Good thoughts and energy for her are extremely welcome.

This piece has been really hard to work on. It probably needs more touching up, so I'm not putting it up in the shop yet. I started it before Cleo passed away, and really had to step back from it. It's still hard, losing her is still a really fresh wound, but I've been so close... I wanted to finish it. It means a lot, putting her at the lotus feet of Pashupati. Even though it's rather roughly colored, this piece is very important to me for that reason.

Very cool article on how snakes can hear without ears or eardrums!
With each tiny footstep, a mouse or other prey radiates waves through the ground and air the same way drops of water ripple through a pool and produce a single drip sound. Just as a ship bobs up and down in response to a wave in the ocean, a snake jaw resting on the ground responds to sound waves carried by the ground.
"The lower jaw of a snake is essentially a ridged cylinder," said Young. "So in that respect it's not terribly different from a ship."
The researchers used the exact equations that measure a ship's movement to model how a snake's jaw would move in response to waves moving through sand or earth. Just as a ship can move in six different directions (heave, pitch, roll, etc.) so can a snake's jaw (up, down, side to side, etc.).

Musical Inspiration: Buedi Siebert - Lotus Call Part 1 (Vajra Guru Mantra)
I finished the piece that I started after the others first. :P But I think she turned out pretty nice. Scorpions are fun to draw and I love the Egyptian sun. They often depicted the sun's rays as having hands at the end, I adore that and finally got to use it in this piece since it's kinda abstract to begin with.
I'm still trying to decide if it's really worth it to try and upload everything onto DeviantArt. It's supposed to be a good way to get your stuff out there, but meh. They make it such a chore to upload and define what your work is. What do you guys think?

I about killed my wrist in the process of coding it, but I am very pleased with Blue Gorgon's resulting facelift!
The fixed menu should work now in all browsers and I've added/changed a few graphics as well. I've also added the definition of "Herps" under the FAQ. I need to add a bunch more pics to the photo gallery still, and a few more graphics on the FAQ and Collection page, but the site format is finished now! Special thanks to the fellas on http://www.ball-pythons.net/ for helping me work out the IE bugs!
Now I just need to get the shop front and community to look as nice. ;) But I'd prefer to focus on the artwork instead for a while.

Here's the second portrait of Shanti, finally done! I'd love to get her tattooed eventually. After this one, I'm gonna try and focus on non-Shanti portraits for a while. So I don't seem obsessed with her even though I am, lol. Also, there's lots more pieces I want to do. :) But there will be more of her eventually! Till we're in a place where big tattoos are feasible, I'm gonna settle for a shirt and perhaps magnet from my shop after the holidays. :) I love how she turned out... my peace angel.

More updating! Have added and edited a bit on the FAQ, including a couple of illustrations for certain points. I have a couple more underway, and if there's particular points on the FAQ you'd like to see illustrations for I'm open to ideas! Here's the Hollywood one as an example.
I was so amused by it, I also made a bunch of items for the shop using this image. <3
