Grencsó Open Collective, guest: Aram Shelton (HU/US) | BMC - Budapest Music Center (original) (raw)

Program

Featuring:

Experimental electronic and contemporary music, free jazz, free improvisations and ethno-jazz have all their place in the signature sound of the Grencsó Open Collective, a quartet working together for years already. Sleaziness and tension, enormous energies and mystical restraint, short etchings alternating with large-scale pieces, simplicity and virtuosity of folk songs form a whole in their dynamic and rhythmic performance.

The quartet invited to their concert the excellent US improviser and composer Aram Shelton, performing on saxophone and clarinet with a distinct, harmonically rich sound and developing musical thoughts through constant motion, tonal shifts and complex sounds alongside clear melodic and rhythmic constructs. His vocabulary utilizes the range of extended techniques including multiphonics and harmonics, circular breathing, wind sounds and an exploration of the outer ranges of the instrument.
