Book Worms "Love is always patient and kind; It is never jealous; Love is never boastful or conceited; It is never rude or selfish; It does not take offense and is not resentful. Love takes no pleasure in other people's sins but delights in the truth; It is always ready to excuse, to trust, to hope, and to endure whatever comes. Love does not come to an end." |

[ **mood** | annoyed ] I was surfing the web and I came across this list of the 100 Most Challenged Books. As I was reading the list, the ones that I recognized really shocked me. Such as Judy Bloom books. I grew up on these books and they are comletely innocent but this list means that somewhere out there, someone has taken offence to these books. So, I decided to post the list so you could all see for yourself. Take a look and leave a comment if any of the books on the list you think should be challenged or if you think we are headed down a street of censorship and given a few years certain books may be banned! I cringe to think about it. ( 100 Most Challenged Books 1900 - 2000Collapse ) | |

[ **mood** | busy ] Okay so I just finished reading The Complete Works of John Keats. A fabulous poet. You really have to read it. You really can't describe it. I also just finished Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen. Oh My God! The most fabulous, fantastic, amazing book I have ever read. I love her. Her way of writing is very accessible. Much more so than Charles Dickens. And they were contemporary's of each other. I also highly recommend renting the A&E/BBC version of Pride & Prejudice with Colin Firth. It was a mini-series. 5 episodes on 2 DVD’s and it’s the book-verbatim! The best costuming since Amadeus! They also stayed true to the etiquette of the period which is 19th century Regency/Victorian England. (Sorry this just happens to be my favorite period in history) I also ordered more books. Most of them are literature but some are reference books. Since Marlene stared the trend of posting your order, so here goes: ( BooksCollapse ) | |

Help | [Thursday March 10th, 2005 @ 12:39pm] |
---|---|
I'm undecided... I need to read a classic book for english. It has to be a female writer. I'm torn between Pride and Prejudice by: Jane Austin or Jane Eyre by: Charlotte Bonte. I've read both. It's basically me, re-reading and writing an essay/report. | |

Mini Review | [Monday February 28th, 2005 @ 7:25pm] |
---|---|
I'm posting this before anybody even thinks of buying this book:CUT by Patricia McCormick is AWFUL!!! The character development begins on one page and ends on the next. Not to mention her writing style is very typical. Now, Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden is a literary artwork. If you haven't checked it out yet then I highly recommend it. You won't want to put it down, I promise!House of the Spirits by Isabel Allended is very good but personally it pissed me off because it is pretty much a carbon copy of 100 Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.Currently I'm reading The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. I'll let you know how that one goes. That was your little mini review for the day lol. | |

---|---|
[ **mood** | ecstatic ] True Believer (Nicholas Sparks' Latest Book) is available for pre-order through Barnes and Noble or at Amazon.com Words From Sparks on True Believer: " True Believer. . . it's the story of Jeremy Marsh, a journalist from New York, who ventures to a small southern town to investigate a ghost story. As with all my stories, love is the centerpiece, and he happens to meet a charming young librarian, Lexie Darnell. Together, they begin to learn the truth and. . . Lest you think you know what happens in the end, you don't. Trust me. You don't. But you will know by the end of the sequel." -Nicholas Sparks | |

[ **mood** | hopeful ] The votes are in! We have gotten a bunch of "yes" and not a single "no". This community will now be open to your creativity, along with all the great books you have read. Please post ORIGINAL work. If not, please state the author of said work. Ok. On another note, I'm reading Fugitive Pieces by: Anne Michaels right now. It's an amazing book about the holocaust.I believe my english teacher said it that Jakob Beer (the protagonist) was real. Here's a review/summary. | |
