Backed by a little bit of support, I've decided to start a Book Club of sorts. This isn't going to be (at least at first) the kind of Book Club where we all have to read the same book at the same time, and we reconvene to discuss major themes or opinions. Rather, I would like this to serve as a venue for all of us to post, discuss, recommend, criticize, and ask questions about whatever books we feel like posting, discussing, recommending, criticizing or asking questions about.
I think we should all start off with a little introduction about ourselves (so cliche)...Something about who we are, what we like, and what we're currently reading, perhaps. I'll go first...
I'm Kaylene. I'm the moderator of this community, although at this point at least, I'm not going to moderate.
I like to spend lazy Sundays at Borders with a grilled cream-cheese filled pretzel, a glass of ice water, perhaps an Americano, and a good book. I like weekday afternoons when our Netflix movies haven't come in yet, and I can enjoy a book on my old bed in my spare room with a glass of Chateau st. Michele Reisling.
I have a little notebook with me at all times to write down books I see on shelves, or things people recommend to me, and I take my little list and go directly to one of my favorite downtown used bookstores. If they don't have the book I want, I buy them on Amazon.com. I get the most loved-looking books I can find, because with few exceptions, I just like older, more worn books better.
Right now I'm reading The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. I haven't seen the movie, and I probably won't. I say it's because it looked too sad for me, but as I read through the middle chapters of the book last night, I found myself sobbing more than once. I'll express more thoughts on the novel in a later post...
For now, welcome to Book Lovahs!!
