Although climate change is a global problem, the literature on climate journalism focuses on main... more Although climate change is a global problem, the literature on climate journalism focuses on mainly Western countries such as the United States, Finland, and Germany. However, we see that the problems in the coverage of climate change exist in Turkish media, too. This study is going to analyze the discussions of contrarian views against climate change in Turkish newspapers through the example of “mini ice age.” It will try to answer these questions: In which way journalists contextualized this finding with respect to climate change? What effects it may have on the polarization of public opinion on climate change? In order to do that 36-news related to mini ice age in 5 online newspapers (Hürriyet, Cumhuriyet, NTV, Sabah, Sözcü) between the years 2004 to 2018 will be analyzed in terms of their language, the sources they use and the experts they give voice. This work will provide an understanding of how climate journalism is shaped during the post-truth age in Turkey and which tools are used.

Although religion does not constitute a place in this agreement, we see that the reality is different. The aim of this paper is to understand whether Alawite refugees from Syria face different treatments or not. Most of the literature analyzes the role of religion either as a facilitator or as an obstacle to adaptation. In the situation of Syrian Alawites in Turkey, we see that both of the mechanisms are on display. They experience exclusion because of their religion. At the same time, faith-based organizations provide them benefits. In this case study, elite-interviews will be conducted with some officials from Alawite communities and civil society organizations related to migration issues to understand the role of religion in the experiences of Syrian Alawite refugees.
