Application. (original) (raw)

Name: Nicholas Wilson

City: I live in Berkeley, California. I'm originally from Phoenix, Arizona.

Age: 20

Top Five (or more) Blues: Here goes...

1. Howlin' Wolf / Hubert Sumlin ( the most underrated musical partnership in history, I say ) 2. Robert Johnson 3. Leadbelly 4. John Lee Hooker ( that cocky bastard ) 5. T-Bone Walker 6. Screamin' Jay Hawkins ( this on may be pushing the limits, but you've gotta love him ) 7. Bo Diddley

Top Five (or more) Folk: I'm not too big on folk music right now. I usually get my fill with Dylan, and Leonard Cohen. I haven't delved too far into straight ahead folk as yet. Maybe this community will help me broaden my horizons a bit.

Top Five (or more) rockabilly / 50's Rock N' Roll: Oh, now you've gone and asked the sacred question. Here it is...

1. Elvis Presley, Scotty Moore, Bill Black and DJ Fontana, They were the kings. Enough said. 2. Jerry Lee Lewis ( he was called the Killer for a reason ) 3. Johnny Cash ( He is my God ) 4. Fats Domino
5. Carl Perkins ( So yes, he started the whole rockabilly thing, but his follow through was a bit lacking due to that car accident. I don't think his momentum ever fully recovered from that ). 6. Chuck Berry 7. Eddie Cochran 8. Buddy Holly
9. Charlie Rich 10. Charlie Feathers 11. Roy Orbison 12. Gene Vincent 13. Warren Smith

I've left off all signs of rockablly revivalists, even though I truly enjoy music of the Blasters, The Reverend Horton Heat ( ahem... the CRAMPS ) and even some Stray cats here and there, I decided to stick to the roots instead of opening that whole can of worms.

Top Ten (or more) misc.:

What's that? You want to hear my top Deathrock and Post Punk bands? Alright, here they are!

1. The Damned 2. The Sisters of Mercy 3. The Smiths / Morrissey 4. The Birthday Party / Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds 5. Bauhaus / Love and Rockets / Tones on Tail / Peter Murphy ( I can lump these into one if I want to! ) 6. True Sounds of Liberty 7. Christian Death ( Rozz Williams only please ) 8. The Cure 9. The Gun Club ( you look just like an Elvis from Hell ) 10. The Lords of the New Church 11. Siouxsie and the Banshees 12. Alien Sex Fiend

About Yourself: I'm a music snob, but a music lover at the same time. I'm usually open to most different areas of music as far as genres are concerned, but I will absolutely not consider rap, modern country music (actually anything that has been considered mainstream country for the past thirty or so years has been mostly shit), cock rock, or death/grind/black/noise/shit core. I also don't like music that involves screaming or growling in place of actual vocals. I doesn't take talent to growl like an animal.
