Such data is often available through the process of digitization of complex geometric objects which are of importance to biometric applications. For example, in the area of 3D face recognition a digital point cloud of data corresponding to

This can be carried out through the interactive specification of curves which can be taken as the boundary conditions for the chosen PDE. Once this is done, it may be necessary to further manipulate the geometry in order to improve the shape. Hence, it is desirable to have as much control as possible over the shape of the surface once it has been defined.

For this we treat surface generation as a mathematical boundary-value problem. In particular, we utilize elliptic Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) of arbitrary order. Using the methodology outlined here a designer can therefore generate the geometry of shapes satisfying an arbitrary set of boundary conditions. The boundary conditions for the chosen PDE can be specified as curves in 3-space defining the profile geometry of the shape. We show how a compact analytic solution for the chosen arbitrary order PDE can be formulated enabling complex shapes to be designed and manipulated in real time. This solution scheme, although analytic, satisfies exactly, even in the case of general boundary conditions, where the resulting surface has a closed form representation allowing real time shape manipulation. In order to enable users to appreciate the powerful shape design and manipulation...

We give a description of the Euler-Lagrange equation associated to biminimal curves on a Riemannian manifold. We describe curves of AW(k) type of Euclidean n-space E n . We show that every biminimal curves of E n are of AW(1)-type. We also show that λ-biminimal curves of E n are of AW(3)-type.

Research paper thumbnail of Method of Characterising 3D Faces Using Gaussian Curvature

This method relies on the geometric facial models regarding as input information. Within a sub-surface we define, which includes much invariant over facial expressions changing, symmetry characteristic is evaluated combining with the study of two distinguishing profiles based on Gaussian curvature. The two profiles have distinguishing features which are classified by means of their curvature. This method is an extension of our previous work on other two profiles feasibility evaluation. A series of curvature results of the profiles are discussed along with the shape of curvatures plot. The experimental results show that the shape information obtained from the 3D facial model can be potentially used to classify and identify individual facial surfaces. In addition, the future work of optimizing and completing this method is presented.
