Attempts to Brazilian territorial occupation in the twentieth century, institutionalized by the M... more Attempts to Brazilian territorial occupation in the twentieth century, institutionalized by the Marcha para o Oeste (1938), found support for implementation, in the forties, at the Expedição Roncador-Xingú and the Fundação Brasil Central, creating infrastructural networks for colonization and development of north-central regions of the country. Agricultural colonies and even new cities were founded in the states of São Paulo, Paraná, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Tocantins, Pará etc., configuring a rich period of urbanization as revealed by many researches. However, this panorama of internalization and territorial occupation during the last century, an episode known as Operação Bananal stands out for its particularity and lack of targeted and original studies. In proposing a resort in the middle of the Bananal Island in 1960, President Juscelino Kubitschek, in addition to promoting colonization by migrants and integration with local indigenous peoples, reaffirm its role as entrepreneur to ensure Brasília their leisure resort on the banks of the Araguaia River. Today, from this visionary action, there are only ruins.
