Coding early developmental pathways across modalities is vital in differential analysis. This article is a succinct review of developmental theories, systems, and practices.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is described in terms of a complex system of interactions between ... more Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is described in terms of a complex system of interactions between two criteria, the neurodevelopmental structures and the cognitivebehavioral manifestations. Through the analysis of the defectological principles in Vygotsky's innovative work in the first quarter of the last century, an attempt is made at a synthesis of the above criteria with that of the biogenetic and socio-cultural domains. Vygotsky described pathogenesis in abnormal development, as a complex inverse relationship between developmental and destructive processes accordingly, whereby "…the greatest possibilities for the development of the abnormal child…lie in the higher, rather than the lower functions…" (Vygotsky, 1993, pp. 198). Consequently, the trajectory within Vygotsky's developmental triad emphasizes the interpsychological-intersubjective sphere as the generative link from "bio-type" to "socio-type". Thus, a basic hypothesis of developmental ontogenesis is generated, namely that, the acquisition of cultural and psychological tools through social learning, conditions the expression of underlying psychological functions in the child, being essentially an input-output process which is bidirectional. The seminal developmental marker established in the literature as child joint attention learning (JL), is described accordingly, as a complex psychological function with an underlying neuropsychological structure which has a tremendous implication in cognitive development, and is expressed according to the ways in which it is mediated externally. An evaluation of recent work in joint attention interventions, as the JAML trials (Shertz et al., 2012;, clearly illustrates the benefits of such interventions in advancing research in early onset identification, in assisting development of much needed communication skills as well as strengthening child-parent relationships through the dissemination of pedagogical and mediated learning principles. Subjunctively, within a sociocultural program, Vygotsky elucidated an important dichotomy within the prevailing worldview of disability, which seems to have been the precursor for the current American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA, 2004), public policy measures, as well as to the general zeitgeist with relation to disability. The distinction being chiefly between the constructs "social welfare" and "social education", whereby the former nomenclature is tantamount to "social disdain" rather than equality. These relatively outdated criticisms are rendered anew within current discussions of institutional and educational implementation of equitable principles for disabled children, and complicated by the systemwide task of, not only effective assimilation, but of disseminating values of equality into the cultural sphere, so as to remove the prejudice of disability as taboo, which requires extant insular measures.

How do historical and cultural determinants shape childhood depression, affect, cognition, and creativity? How are psychodynamic processes and creativity translated into cultural activity? Specifically, in epicenters of turbulent political unrest and crisis? The following is a critical introduction which attempts to canvas this multidisciplinary topic, drawing on the diverse areas of cultural psychology, psychopathology, comparative literature, philosophy and history.

The participants were Brooklyn College undergraduate students (n=133). A Python module assigned a text condition, a multiple-choice test and interest level scale. MANOVA results showed a main effect of test scores for the image conditions: F(2,109)=3.438, p=.036. The difficulty conditions showed marginal significance: F(1, 109)=3.612, p=.060, participants scored higher in the harder difficulty groups and in the relevant compared to irrelevant image conditions: p=.049. Results suggest that media stimuli can affect scores on reading tests and that more effortful tasks may yield greater short-term comprehension and retention rates.
