bsg slashathon (original) (raw)

A few modly/discussion-y type things:

To put the success of this project in perspective for you all, I went through and counted all of the fics posted at bsg_slash from the beginning of Oct. 2007 to the end of Sept. 2008. There were roughly 27 m/m fics posted to the community in that time. I say "roughly" because I didn't count separate parts of multi-part fics. (Rather counted them as one.) I also know that bsg_slash isn't the only community where m/m bsg fic is posted. For example, some may post to bsg2003fics, or another community, and not crosspost to bsg_slash. However, given that, I feel this is a good measuring point. In three weeks we produced 49 fics. I can't begin to tell you guys how amazing that is. But I think the numbers stand for themselves.

cynthia_arrow and myself started this community back in January in the hopes of drumming up interest, reaching out to the slash fans in this fandom, and inspiring them to write and create and share with each other by hosting events that would encourage just that. I don't want to sound too self-contratulatory, but I think we've done a pretty good job at meeting that goal. And all of you, our members, have helped to make this whole experiment a success. I could not be any prouder.

That said, I want to hear from you guys. What are we doing right? What are we doing wrong? Do you have any suggestions for future events? What about non-fic events like meta and discussion? (Which you are free to post here anytime you like, fyi!) What aren't you seeing that you would like to see? What would make you more likely to participate in the future? Tell me what you're thinking because I want every event to be as successful and fun as this past one and for that we need your input!

One specific question I have is: Are you interested in an end-of-the-year or new year's event of some kind? If so, ideas? Fic exchange? Etc?

Finally:
This probably goes without saying, but for any of you who have concerns... we're releasing the prompts into the wild. If one or several of the prompts from the ficathon inspired you or gave you a plot bunny or planted the seed of something huge in your brain and you weren't able to get to it this round? Please, by all means, run with it. Don't think that because the event here is over that you have to put a lid on those ideas. It's all about inspiration here. So run wild! Post it at your journal or bsg_slash weeks from now or months from now, it doesn't matter how long it takes. There are tons of excellent prompts and to see them go unused would be a tragedy of epic proportions. You might even wanna print out that list out and keep it around for a rainy day, you never know when inspiration will strike!
