SLN is identified by combine use of nuclear imaging and dye method, as nuclear imaging facility is expensive, not easily available and radioactive materials have more potential complications so dye alone can be an alternative. Aims : To assess the feasibility of using methylene blue dye (MBD) for detection of SLN in OSCC patient and using frozen section analysis to analyze metastatic status of SLN. Method : 20 patients with the histopathological diagnosis of OSCC, irrespective of stage underwent SLN identification by using a peritumoral injection of MBD. Surgery of neck was done first with reflection of subplatysmal flap to identify blue-stained node as SLN in the neck region and sent for frozen section analysis. Surgery was completed with primary resection and neck dissection. Histopathological analysis of SLN was done later. Result...

Research paper thumbnail of Temporal space infection secondary to recurrent buccal space infection from mandibular deciduous molar in 7-year-old child: a case report

Journal of Chitwan Medical College, 2019

Head and neck space infections are usually secondary to odontogenic infections due to translocati... more Head and neck space infections are usually secondary to odontogenic infections due to translocation of oral microbes to fascial space via odontogenic route resulting in progression by enzymatic degradation of connective tissue. Various factors like microbiological, host, nutritional and socioeconomic factors are responsible for progression of fascial space infection that might take fatal course if not treated in time. The present case report describes a child with fascial space infection of oral and maxillofacial region who was treated by incision and drainage in department of oral and maxillofacial surgery of this hospital. Fascial space infections are one of the surgical emergencies and need to be addressed in early stage as it has rapid regional and systemic progression leading to fatal outcome. It is multifactorial and all need to be addressed. Incision and drainage with removal of cause with antimicrobial therapy is treatment modality of space infection. Inadequate drainage mig...

These sequelae are caused by physiological inflammatory response to trauma. This study was carried out to evaluate the post-operative outcome after surgical extraction. Methods: An observational study was carried out involving 141 patients. After taking proper history and performing clinical examination, diagnosis of impacted lower third molar was confirmed by Orthopantomogram (OPG). Paired T-test, independent t-test and Anova test was applied to check the level of significance. A p value less than .05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The study revealed that the gender factor predicted pain on Day 3 and Day 7 (p < 0.05). Gender predicted mouth opening at Day 3 (p < 0.05). Swelling was not affected by gender on any day. Pain was affected by age at Day 3 and Day 7. swelling and mouth opening was affected by age at Day 3 only. Opera...
