Buffer’s AI Assistant uses advanced algorithms and machine learning techniques to analyze trends and patterns in social media data, and generates ideas based on that information. Buffer’s AI Assistant is based on OpenAI’s proprietary API.

Can I adjust the tone of the AI-generated posts?
Yes! You can make posts more casual or formal, shorten or expand them, and tweak the structure to match your brand's voice all within the post composer.
Is the AI Assistant free to use?
Yes! You can use Buffer’s AI Assistant without any limits by signing up for a free Buffer account, or you can use our publicly-available AI social media post generator to try it out yourself.
Do I have to use AI Assistant with Buffer?
No — our AI Assistant is entirely optional for users. Your posts are not automatically generated, changed, or tweaked by the AI, unless you open the AI Assistant interface in the post composer or the Create space. While the AI Assistant is easily accessed in those areas, Buffer is not an AI tool — all our core features (posting, scheduling, planning, and more) aren’t AI-powered.
Does Buffer scrape my content to train the AI?
We use OpenAI’s Large Language Models to provide AI-powered responses and assistance. If you use AI Assistant to generate ideas or refine a post, the text you enter into the assistant will be shared with OpenAI. No other information (your account details, media files, or any other part of your post or work in Buffer) is shared.
