Rearing a banded tussock moth (original) (raw)

Clickable Guide

see hereI found this odd looking caterpillar on an elm leaf but when I tried to feed it american elm leaves it wouldn’t accept. I tried the other tree right by the elm in my yard, a bur oak, and the caterpillar began to voraciously eat any leaf placed with it. It’s already molted twice in captivityContributed by BugIdentifier on 21 August, 2023 - 9:35am Banded tussok moth rearing I'm very new to the field, but I decided to try and raise banded tussok moths as well. Mine haven't molted, although the larger one that was originally silver is beginning to turn yellow like the smaller one. What happened with yours? Not sure if it applies to this sp., but many caterpillars get infected + die in low ventilation.
