Gimmie Moore (original) (raw)

Well, as some of you may know I had the opportunity to see Michael Moore speak at a church downtown. It was good experience overall. I was amazed by the turn out of people to see him speak. The Church held 1,800 in the main auditorium and people had to be filed into adjacent rooms to listen over speakers. The line to get into the building was four people wide and nearly 3 blocks long! As for what Moore had to say I was honestly a bit disappointed. If I didn't know anything about Moore, and I happened to walk in off the street I would have assumed he was a comedian. A lot of it was talking about the same problems we all know about and the audience cheering and clapping. I guess I expected more. Perhaps new facts I didn’t know, suggestions for change, his view points on why things are a certain way and so on. All that being said, it was still a great time. He took the time to go outside for 20 min and talk to all the people that couldn’t fit in the church. Furthermore all the people that couldn't sit in the main auditorium were first in line to meet him.
Michael Moore is a great guy with a lot to say. It's just that most of what he has to say is relaying of information. Sometimes he can be insightful, just as sometimes his information has a pretty strong spin to it. The overriding message of the night seemed to be two things:
a) Republicans are in the minority, and the only reason they control everything is because Liberals are disenfranchised, they're elitist ("if you were a Republican, you can't be a Dem.) and that liberals are more or less lazy. (For the most part I agree with this)
b) Get your ass out there and vote. (duh!)
Moore, the informer and the motivator, good stuff.
Thank-you
