It delves into the transformation of Southeast Asia, which has shifted from a region under the dominance of European colonial powers to one that seeks to establish its unique identity and chart its own course. Additionally, it underscores the pivotal role played by collective identity in the process of integrating Southeast Asia while exploring the factors influencing its formation. In addition to theoretical exploration, this article posits that ASEAN’s collective identity, to some extent, finds resonance among elites, diplomats and technocrats but remains less prevalent among the general ASEAN population. Consequently, this article suggests the need for the development
of a transnational mechanism or policy that facilitates and encourages the
flow of people and information across borders. ASEAN should also consider reinterpreting its norms, promoting educational initiatives and fostering greater engagement with its citizens.

This phenomenon is currently capturing the world's attention and is perceived as a significant challenge to states, governments, and global politics. In the context of liberal political theory, none of the theories of secession has appeared to find a healthy balance of considerations between the anti-secessionists and the pro-secessionists, and the less permissive view and the more permissive view. They are also incompetent to formulate the specific conditions under which secession might be justified or legitimate practically. Moreover, as demonstrated in the cases of Catalonia and Scotland, all of the theories neglect the economic implications of secession, which have crucially fueled and driven contemporary secessionist movements. This paper seeks to develop a conceptual framework for secession as reflected by the cases of secessionist movements in Catalonia and Scotland. It proposes that Plebiscitary approaches require modification to safeguard a flawless state and

It highlights the significant roles of institutions in the integrating Southeast Asia and demonstrates three main areas of institutional deficiency in the association. However, although ASEAN institutions meet the expectations, by and large, in terms of serving the national governments and upholding the association's norms, along with theoretical explanation, this paper argues that ASEAN should focus on strengthening its existing institutional structure by providing them with a mandate and sufficient financial and human resources in order to support its administration and growing activities. Finally, the paper suggests a revision of the current financial contribution system, a seeking of alternative sources of income and some institutional inventions such as a research wing and a mechanism that can get non-state actors involved in the process.

Soon after the June 23 referendum, the world saw 52 percent of Britons choosing to leave the EU signifying the UK's future is going to lie outside Europe. Economically speaking, most analysts have judged that the darkest side of the exit will be in economics. Unsurprisingly, right after the result of the referendum came out; one of the signs of economic push back has been witnessed by the sharp devaluation of sterling. However, what really surprised us is the fact that the result led to contentious reactions and social complications as it exposes deep divisions across the country, apparently between the old and the young, the North and the south, the rich and the poor, London and the provinces as well as the British and the Scottish. A week later after the resignation of David Cameron, there was another surprise when the two chief figureheads of Brexit campaign, Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage, ruled themselves out of leading the EU Leave campaign. Obviously, such decisions to step aside has worsen the situation and left with a massive political vacuum at the top of British politics. T his is the first case of regional disintegration in which the country leaving the bloc now plunges into turmoil, surrounded with a cloud of uncertainty with many more questions than answers.

It is a significant step forward and could be a crucial turning point for ASEAN. But without a strong central authority and mandate, ASEAN integration will remain in a mess and the AEC remain an illusion.

It highlights the significant roles of leadership in the integrating Southeast Asia and contradicts its common belief of invisible leadership. It highlights the role and the importance of Indonesia in the development of ASEAN as a main factor that can determine ASEAN's survival and success. Moreover, it insists that ASEAN is literally subject to structural powers, derived from material and resource capacity, in which leadership is highly attached to a leader's charisma. Finally, the paper proposes that the benevolent roles of Indonesia with strong emphasis on soft power are a key element of success.
