Nothing big gets solved by one person. To take on cancer, it takes all of us. It takes a society. 💛
About us
What does it take to take on cancer? It takes all of us. We all know the saying ‘It takes a village.’ But to take on cancer, it takes more than a village. We believe it takes a society. It takes a community – of patients, caregivers, healthcare providers, researchers, advocates, donors, supporters and volunteers – rallying together around a shared cause. Profound impact is possible when we combine our actions with the actions of others. Our goal at the Canadian Cancer Society is to inspire people of all ages, from all backgrounds and all parts of the country to come together to take on cancer’s biggest issues. Nothing big gets solved by one person. To take on cancer, it takes all of us. It takes a society. 💛

Emergency Room physician and patient advocate Dr Anthony Dixon is living with prostate cancer. He recently joined fellow patient advocates and Dr Stuart E. at a press conference sponsored by MPP Wayne Gates that brought together MPPs from across the political divide to call for the removal of the cost of the PSA test for anyone referred by their healthcare provider. A PSA test is a simple blood test that can help detect #prostatecancer early, when it is easier to treat. Anthony shared a gripping story of a patient he encountered in his work and the devastating effect that prostate cancer can have when it isn’t found early. Especially heartbreaking is that the cost of the PSA test may be a barrier to getting this test. We are privileged to advocate alongside patients like Anthony who are pushing for Ontario to join the 8 other provinces and 3 territories who already cover the cost of the test. Men who make a decision with their healthcare provider to get the test should be able to pay with their OHIP card instead of their credit card. - Sharing prostate cancer stories like Dr Anthony Dixon’s is so important. Why? Because 1 in 8 men in Canada will be diagnosed with the disease in their lifetime. That’s an estimated 27,900 men in 2024 alone. Donating to the Canadian Cancer Society during #ProstateCancerAwarenessMonth is the most impactful way to support men like Anthony. We’re championing world-leading outcomes in the early detection, treatment and support of prostate cancer – and you can help. 💛 Donate today and help change the future of prostate cancer: https://lnkd.in/gF-QGg8G
- 🎉 Congratulations to Dr Jacques Simard on receiving the 2023 Canadian Cancer Society O. Harold Warwick Prize. This awards recognizes his career-long contribution to improving #cancer prevention, detection and treatment by studying the genetic predisposition of human beings to the disease. Vice-Dean of Research and Innovation at the Faculty of Medicine of the Université Laval and Director of Cancer Genomics Laboratory, at the CHU de Québec-Université Laval Research Centre, Dr Jacques Simard has devoted his career to understanding how genetics make some people more likely to get breast, ovarian and prostate cancers.
