About us

Since Fighting Blindness Canada was founded in 1974, it has funded over $40 million in the best, most promising vision research to understand the causes of vision loss and drive treatments and cures for blinding eye diseases. Investment in research means that there is now a treatment to prevent vision loss for age-related macular degeneration - and today we have the first approved treatment for an inherited retinal disease: a gene therapy that restores sight for a form of leber congenital amaurosis (LCA) and retinitis pigmentosa (RP). Today is National Philanthropy Day, a time to honour the power of giving and its incredible impact on our community. This year we hope you can join us in supporting programs like Young Leaders. One of the many challenges of living with vision loss is the impact it can have on your employment and career prospects. Excited to introduce Jennifer Jones, President & CEO of Fighting Blindness Canada, in our latest Purpose-Led CEO Interview! Jennifer’s journey is full of inspiring stories. She started her first job at age 9 with a paper route to earn money for roller skates - a first taste of hard work and perseverance! Since then, her career has taken her across advertising, finance, and nonprofit work, and in every role, she’s shown how much purpose matters. She is a leader with a people-first philosophy, believing in kindness and balancing purpose with impact. Jennifer has transformed organizations like Indigo Love of Reading and the Toronto Public Library Foundation, raising over $50 million for social causes. At FBC, she leads with a clear vision: to end vision loss and advocate for those impacted by blinding eye disease. Along the way, she’s been inspired by mentors like Becky Oreilly, who taught her the importance of recruiting with extreme focus and care to protect the values and culture of the organization, Vanda Provato, whose calm communication inspired trust, and Jocelyn Brody, who taught her to lead with humanity.
