I'm thrilled to finally reveal where all my energy has been invested in the past months. 💬 Have you ever heard of open-source HARDWARE? 👀 What about a 3D-printed tourniquet that anyone can manufacture, repair, and customize? 👉 https://lnkd.in/dkie3nnxIn a nutshell, open-source hardware is the practice of openly sharing design files online so anyone can study, copy, repair, or improve a product or device. In HardwareX, I explore open-source designs globally that bring a novel approach to finding sustainable solutions to urgent issues. I get to "nerd out" with researchers, developers, and experts, take a look at the needs each design addresses, and explore the financial, socio-economic, and environmental impact of open-source product development. Over the coming period, I'll share some of the designs I've uncovered, starting with a 3D-printed tourniquet designed to save lives in Gaza. In this episode, Dr Tarek Loubani of Glia and Victoria Jaqua RT (R) (CT), RCIS of Open Source Medical Supplies (OSMS) take us from #Gaza to #Ukraine as we explore the development, testing, and scaling of the open-source tourniquet and the open-source tourniquet tester published on HardwareX. Available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, Castro, and many more: https://lnkd.in/ddfKCe_e - Glia is seeking a highly organized and proactive Administrative Coordinator to support our Executive Director. - Assistive Devices for Developing Countries, a project by Seifu BiT Makerspace at Bahir Dar University in Ethiopia and Glia. Funded by the Frugal Biomedical Innovations Catalyst Grant at Western University, the goal is to develop 3D-printed prosthetic limbs utilizing interchangeable occupation-specific tools to empower healthy, independent, and dignified lives.
- “Equity is the only acceptable goal”, Dr. Paul Farmer. Embark on a journey with us as we delve into the evolution of Glia. From humble beginnings as innovators in medical device research, design, and manufacturing, we've grown into something extraordinary. Stay tuned in the coming weeks as we spotlight the incredible humanitarian work Glia and our partners have pivoted toward. What began as a vision to revolutionize healthcare access has blossomed into a multifaceted commitment to making a difference in the world.
