- We are thrilled to congratulate Rupert Garcia, RSE, our sensational silver medallist from Calgary! 🥈 Fifteen years after his mentor, Hayato Okamitsu, CCC, won the championship, Rupert has made his own mark at the 2024 #CCC with his hard work and outstanding finale dish featuring Steelhead Trout and Apple. Reflecting on his journey, Rupert shares that his experience was not just career-defining but also deeply enriched by the camaraderie with his fellow “chef-ties” (chef besties). “Very grateful for silver, we pushed beyond our limits and are very happy to be recognized for it. - We're immensely thankful to the students and faculty of Algonquin College of Applied Arts and Technology's Hospitality program for their invaluable contributions to the 2024 #CanadianCulinaryChampionship! Quite simply, #CCC2024 wouldn't have been possible without their vital support. 🌟 Each of our ten competing chefs was paired with a total of five Algonquin College culinary students during the high-stakes Mystery Wine challenge and Grand Finale event: three to assist with food prep and an additional two to join in plating meals for nearly 1,000 guests. Ninety talented students submitted applications for the fifty available spots, and our CCC competitors were absolutely thrilled with their skill and enthusiasm. What a unique opportunity to work alongside and be mentored by some of Canada's finest chefs! Chef Rupert Garcia, RSE's journey to the CCC podium is particularly inspiring for the young Algonquin College culinarians. During his culinary education at Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), this year's Silver medallist was honoured to be mentored by chef Hayato Okamitsu, CCC, a former CCC champion himself. We wholeheartedly applaud Algonquin College for helping to shape the talent of Canada's future culinary stars! 🌟

- With a culinary approach that shifts to accommodate seasonal changes in the Okanagan's bounty, chef Neil Taylor's talent and creativity shone most brightly during the Mystery Wine Challenge in which his culinary mastery was on full display. “The #CCC was an intense but incredibly exciting experience with talented chefs who had each other’s backs despite the fierce competition," he reflects. "The most enjoyable part for me was the Mystery Wine competition—shopping, prepping with incredible students, serving 250 guests in the same day, and receiving positive feedback made it truly special.” We applaud Chef Taylor for his marvelous skill, dedication, and enthusiasm, adding to the joy and camaraderie of #CCC2024.
