Registration is now open for the Sparking Change in the Appropriate Use of Antipsychotics (AUA) Awards Program. The program supports person-centred care in long-term care (LTC) homes across Canada with the aim of improving the quality of life for people living with dementia, as well as for those who care for them. Rates of potentially inappropriate use of antipsychotics were declining across Canada prior to 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated the issue, causing rates to rise. The Sparking Change in AUA program recognizes this renewed priority and will support person-centred care in long-term care homes through the appropriate use of antipsychotics and innovative, non-pharmacological approaches to care. From November 2024 to February 2026 participating LTC homes will have access to learning tools and events, quality improvement coaching and a network of peers. Teams will also have the opportunity to participate in awards and could win up to $32,000 per home. Spark Change.
