- We're seeing a fascinating shift: instead of competing head-on with fintechs, established FIs are leveraging API middleware to modernize their digital offerings. From open banking to credit card issuance and spend management - it's all about empowering banks to deliver the seamless digital experience customers expect. Think of it as "The Empire Strikes Back" moment for traditional finance. Watch Partner Laura Lenz explain more about why it's an area of interest for our investment team:
- Is your quote-to-cash process ready for the AI era? Traditional pricing models are breaking under the weight of multi-LLM solutions and usage-based billing, while siloed systems create costly errors. Learn how we think modern quote-to-cash infrastructure can transform customer relationships and future-proof revenue operations, and find out why we're interested in meeting startups building in this space:

There is a vibrant community of founders, from young former investors through seasoned financial services executives, building innovative solutions for the credit asset class. Over the last year, our team at OMERS Ventures has been meeting with dozens of founders, industry operators, traders, investors, and more to understand the nuanced problems facing this asset class. Last week, as a culmination of these efforts, we hosted a Demo Day for the OMERS Global Credit and Data & Technology teams to offer the group a unique level of insight gained as a result of being a Venture team solely focused on Fintech. Start-ups are building a wide range of solutions to address various phases of the investment lifecycle, from data management and diligence through deal execution and monitoring. From the customer names shared during the Demo Day, it is evident that the best asset managers are ready for modern solutions. It is clear that the growth of the asset class has far outpaced the development of supporting infrastructure, necessitating innovation. #privatecredit #venturecapital #fintechOne of the key trends is the increasing need to accurately track complex, disparate investment commitments housed across a maze of various funds, data rooms, PDFs and spreadsheets. The digitization of deal documents, automation of reporting, and the establishment of comprehensive workflows with full audit trails are becoming essential. Additionally, there is a growing opportunity to integrate financial data for real-time vetting of financial statements, eliminating the need to wait until the end of the period and relying on borrower-prepared statements. AI is central to many of these advancements, unlocking new use cases and enhancing the management of complex, asset-based transactions. AI can efficiently parse through extensive documents, such as a 200-page credit agreement, significantly reducing the workload for analysts by 70-80%. However, it's clear the human element remains crucial for ensuring accuracy, as much of the information in these agreements is nuanced. The need for cross-party data sharing and collaboration platforms is critical, as transaction documents are often siloed within divisions or firms, leading to inefficiencies. Ensuring proper identification, permissioning, and security is paramount as the asset class continues to grow. Thereโs no better indication of product market fit than listening to well-established experts in a space talk with founders who are building solutions to address real- world challenges. We are excited by the innovation and committed to finding and supporting the platform that will shape this asset class, both today and well into the future. - OMERS Ventures reposted this

Itโs an amazing thing to see builders supporting other builders. Incredible night in SF speaking with a group of founders in the AI agent space. Thanks to Mikhil Raja, Eugene Lee and I were privileged to have a front row seat discussing (I) the right way to build an agent, (II) the best GTM strategy for agentic tech, (III) API access and competition, and (IV) how to ensure every version update to an LLM increases the value of your startup instead of decreasing it. A few highlights: ๐ก Testing & evaluation solutions are a white space opportunity for agents. It is inherently hard to have AI grade itself and most companies are currently building ad hoc solutions in-house ๐ High quality and differentiated data, rather than a huge technical advantage, is still the primary competitive moat right now โ The threat of key platform integrations turning off API access is likely low because enterprises that adopt a strategy of being AI-friendly will see higher usage over time and remain relevant in a rapidly changing market Keep an eye on this group -- they're ones to watch! - OMERS Ventures reposted this
๐ Milestone moment ๐ Today we announced our first sale of carbon removal credits to two world class companies who recognize the need to decarbonize: RBC and Microsoft. We'll remove 10,000 tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere over a 10-year period via Deep Sky Labs, the worldโs first carbon removal innovation and commercialization center. RBC is the 8th largest bank globally by market cap and the 5th largest in North America. This is RBCโs first carbon removal purchase from a Direct Air Capture project and of course, Microsoft is the largest buyer of CDR globally. We're proud that this is the first sale of carbon removal credits from a Canadian Direct Air Capture (DAC) project. Other buyers interested in reserving carbon removal credits from Deep Sky can reach out to sales@deepskyclimate.com. Read more in Bloomberg: https://bit.ly/3ACE35y

We welcome all founders, funders, and friends of this initiative I launched last year. For anyone who wants to learn more about The Green Room or to get involved, see the summary below, check out pitchtgr dot com, or even better yet, register for the happy hour next week! We'd love to see you there. ๐๐ฏ๐ผ๐๐ ๐ง๐๐ฅ: TGR is a space I built for founders to practice their pitches in front of select VCs, industry leaders, and fellow founders in a low-stakes/judgment-free environment. The goal is to provide founders with the honest, blunt, often critical feedback they need ahead of raising for real. During the session, each founder does their pitch and then the panelists + other founders provide feedback. All of this is done virtually in a closed Zoom room and strict confidentiality is enforced to protect the intention of the space. What makes it unique: โข Each session is focused on a particular topic/industry, and panelists and founders are hand-picked to match to ensure relevance. โข Each session includes 3 founders/founding teams and 3 VCs/industry expert panelists, allowing panelists to riff off one another and demonstrate in real-time where there is/is not consensus (and what founders should expect with different VCs when they go out to raise) โข Unlike a pitch competition where founders are pressed for time, TGR gives founders a full 40 minutes to go through their pitch and get meaningful feedback. โข This is not about giving founders โpats on the backโ or participation accolades. TGR was designed for real talk, in a way thatโs actually helpful to founders during what can be a very difficult and confusing process. TGR was originally focused just on health tech, but because itโs gotten such great traction and incredible feedback from both founders and panelists that I'm doubling down and expanding to other topics. Weโve had over 350 founders apply from 24 different countries and over 150 panelists apply to date. Prior panelists include top VCs from the likes of Bessemer, Bain, Greycroft, Headline, NEA, Notable, Salesforce Ventures, and others.
